oh, i'm sorry i was unaware that people had to work in order to make money, i had been under the belief that it grew on trees they want to watch it, they can avoid bigsoccer, they can avoid the internet, they can avoid tv, they can avoid talking to people, they can avoid reading a newspaper i don't live in that kind of a world though, i deal with people every frickign second... news is now, you don't wait 6 hours or a day or two days to find out if your country was nuked... you want that asap this whole delay stuff is so fake, so crap and so fricking assholish to everyone else it is beyond belief screw the strokes... let them start their write in campaign for new episodes of the original star trek
Rick, you are making some valid points. I also agree that results (or even a hint of a result) in a thread title is wrong. On the other hand, a post in a thread is a different story. Consider a "who will advance" thread (without an [R]) in which I predict that Costa Rica & Ecuador will advance from group A or Togo and Korea advance from Group G. If that actually happens do you truly expect me not to add a "told ya" post? Is this childish? - Yes. Is this going to happen? - for sure. The reality is that anyone wanting to avoid spoilers should take some responsibility for themselves. Using the example of a person picking one game a day to watch without knowing the score. There is a high likelihood of them finding the score even with the [R] rule. This can happen because the result was stated or implied in a thread about another game in the same or another group, it can also happen due to a slip-up (e.g. "our path to the semis is now clear"). The only way to avoid spoilers is by avoiding threads discussing the WC (with or without an [R]) anything else is just playing with fire.
ok you want stupidity? we have the [r]... it means that it's real, and info inside might contain scores inside the thread, scores are not allowed, and you must do the highlight to reveal... YET, if you don't say what game or what aspect, people get offended the mouthbreathers are winning, and i blame them and the stupid ones backing them... this is sad i mean really sad, wake up and smell the roses... life is occuring results are used because we are discussing them, this is a website that deals with the here and now, not the selected portions approved for by a committee of friends for ross perot i'm serious, this is sad... bigsoccer is going down the crapper
I don't care about the R rule, but some people do, passionately. I know because I was modding the US boards and I got plenty of reported post emails about spoilers. Now, I'll admit, they pretty much all came from the same person. But, if that person cares that much about it, then those who don't mind seeing the scores should try to abide by the R rule. HOWEVER, I don't think there should be any sort of significant retribution for slipping up on it. It's just too easy to forget to hide results. Likewise, those people who have serious issues with seeing results ought to know the risk they take when they come to BigSoccer.
This thread is getting ridiculous. We have already established that the [R] rule is required and it works. It shouldn't even be up for debate.
If I tape a game, I try to avoid the Internet and radio and TV sports shows. However, there is an important function of the R rule that has not really been discussed much yet, the fact that I can come here and read a PBP thread for a non televised game and recreate it in my mind as if I was watching the game, especially fun in YA. If the result is spoiled, I can't do this. And nothing about the "It's news, avoid the Internet" position would let me.....
required? it's required to deny people information??? what are we? the government? look man, the r doesnt' even hold up to the aspect of a thread containing results inside of it... because you can't even give results in a thread containing the r... it's insane, you have to do a highlight to reveal... than why the F* bother having the damn r???... i swear to god that the whole notion of the r is why the government pays 10,000 dollars for a toilet seat
head to yanks abroad that's the way *every* thread in there is it happens in the us men's forums too, although not as much they'll usually throw an r on something and let anything else go
That's pretty crap. In the Man Utd forum we have two main [R] related threads. One is for the current match and that is all we discuss in it. The second is a thread for 'other teams' and that is to discuss any result we want. Therefore if you don't want to know the score of the latest match then clearly avoid the match thread and if you don't want to know the score of anything else, avoid the other thread. Works perfectly and keeps everyone happy.
i have a question tho, what does it matter if you know a result? you can still watch a game and enjoy it. I like football (american) and if i miss my favorite team ill tape it. but you can bet the first second i get its checkin espn to see if they won. Game watched or not. I thought the point of watching a game is to see if your team wins looses or draws. If you can just look up results why watch the game?
