8. My cellphone rings the other day and a voice says to me, "Who is Polish, wears Number 10 and is good for two assists per game?" I immediately ask, "Who is this?" The voice says, "It is Peter Nowak." So, I say, "You must be talking about yourself." Nowak says, "No, I'm talking about Danny Szetela." Nowak is acting as a family advisor to the Polish-born Szetela, who indeed wears No. 10 for the U.S. Under-17s. And, yes, the kid can dish out the assists…just ask Freddy Adu. Szetela lost his father two years ago, so his mother has asked Nowak - Szetela's idol growing up - if he can help them sort through the offers that are starting to come the boy's way. Great decision by mom. Go ahead and start speculating Fire Fans. Maybe that number 10 shirt won't stay in storage for too long.

He's the goods, though when Poland officially joins the EEU Szetela won't have work permit problems in England. The big boys have already sat up and taken notice of the lad.

MLS is not a bad career option at this point in his life, if MLS are willing to offer up enough money to make it worth Szetela's while to stay. He would get serious minutes for practically any MLS team next year, while he'd stand little chance at 17 with the bigger Euro clubs.

Re: Poland, I believe that the FA is treating the future EU members as if they were already members, hence the row about Howard not actually having a Hungarian passport, and so having to get a WP.

I have to say that the P-40 program seems like an incredible benefit to anyone who is considering MLS, play soccer and get paid now, full college tuition later, brilliant. One of the smarter things they have done.
