Was meaning to post this ages ago!

Espanyol up to 2nd Division: It looked like relegation for the Barcelona-based club in the Primera Division, but they survived. Instead, the Espanyol B-team won promotion from the 3rd to the 2nd Division in their playoff in August. So, maybe they had the A-team and B-team confused all along. The other lucky clubs going up to the Segunda are La Solana, Aldaia CF, and Joventut Almassora.

Nothing is Real: So, in 2019, there was excited hubbub for Real Madrid finally starting out in women's football, taking over Tacon, and running the team funded by Real Madrid, and broadcast on Real Madrid TV, and wearing Real Madrid logos before deleting them from the jersey after they lost 9-1 in their first match...
...So, that wasn't Real Madrid at all. But there's this new team, Real Madrid Women (est. July 2020), with a great history going all the way back to last week. I give up.

BTW, @soccernutter, just wondering - if you met someone who lied and/or didn't know literally the first thing about the team they claimed to support, what advice would you give that person? Thanks

Hey, is there anywhere where people outside of Spain can watch these games live? Last year on the Primera Iberdrola website they would at least list the channels inside Spain showing the games, but this year I can't seem to find anything.

I apologise in advance for my ignorance if there is an obvious answer to this question.

Not a silly question at all, even some clubs were hazy on that last year. It ended in court!

Sevilla's channel is definitely streaming some of their matches - they also did for the away semifinal in the Copa de la Reina, at Barcelona

This was last week's, in the league (week 2):

If you can watch online "the Spanish way", the public broadcaster RTVE is showing/streaming 18 games this season, which is new:
    https://www.rfef.es/noticias/rtve-ofrecera-18-partidos-primera-iberdrola
Gol TV still has the most matches, many of which show up later on a Youtube channel, Women Also Play.
There's up-to-date info every week on Karlyboy71's TV page.
Other clubs were streaming some games last season on their channels - Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao, and Real Madrid - but not sure about now.

Thanks for that. It appears to me that the Spanish League does seem to have very little interest in actually showing their games, which is a shame.

Atlético win the cup. And are putting some nice pieces together with Nchout, Diallo joining Castellanos and Ludmila in the attack.

Since I got suckered into a 3 month Barca TV subscription (what trial period?! [emoji849]) I figured I might as well use it to watch the women.

Tonight was Barcelona v Betis and finished in 6-0 but didn't looks as well-oiled as they did a few months ago. Of course them swapping a few players every match doesn't really help in that regard. Don't know how regularly she plays there but Petri looked pretty good in the CD position tonight (listed as midfielder on the squad page).
Some more playing time for my favourite spanish youth player in many years as well: Jana Fernández, destined to become Spanish NT right back for years to come if you ask me [emoji41].

Ha was it the old forgot to cancel after trial subscription?

When the top of the table plays the bottom you would think Barca would have a really high possession rate and their central defenders would have their feet up and the remote or a good book in their hand :)

I wonder how Nahikari Garcia is making out this year...

Turns out the trial period is only valid in certain countries [emoji38]. Kept reading throughout about trial periods and cancelling that I didn't think anything was odd about only having the choice of an annual or three month subscription. Lucky I chose the three month one then [emoji1].
(of course Barca is a team I support as well and seems they could use the money right about now [emoji23])

Tomorrow (13/02/2021) Barcelona will face Logroño in the conclusion of the 2019-20 Copa de La Reina (the cup mentioned here was the 20-21 Super Copa)

Time for that quarterly update : FC Barcelona Femení became league champions today after only 26 out of 34 games played. Another clean sheet and one goal was enough for the win at Tenerife

What better location could you wish for to celebrate (post-match)

Super League 100% aside, I like that someone is challenging the UEFA monopoly.

Focus on Spain: Here's a tactical look at their wins in the most recent internationals, by Nick Aitken interviewing Nati Gutiérrez:
    - "Slick Spain gathering #WEURO2022 momentum" - (SheKicks.net / Archive)

[IMG] Three months later, and another Copa de la Reina reaches its conclusion - this is the 2020/21 final. Levante showed spirit and rallied with 2 goals in reply in the 2nd half, but there's no stopping Barça at the moment...

    Barcelona 4 - 2 Levante
    Guijarro 5', Putellas 20', 73', Torrejón 29' / Redondo 59', Banini 67'

Atletico was in a rough stretch with Deyna Castellanos out injured, shut out 5/10 games with her gone. Her first game back starting and she picks up the winning goal and two assists against undefeated Barca. I think she might be a pretty important piece to that team. I'll be curious to see if she stays there if they don't make the champions league cutoff next season.

Just my confusion. I saw the Atletico and Levante posts next to each other above and merged them mentally.

They want the coach who helped the club win the CL and other trophies to be gone because what? Doesn’t say why exactly, but I’m assuming because he was too hard on them mentally and physically.

Yes I assumed the same but there seems to be some speculation in the comments here it was tied to the Vicky Losada departure

Yes, I'm curious about what problems the players had with Cortes. I read--on this board, I believe--that Oshoala wasn't happy, but I assume that's simply because she lost her starting role late in the season. ( think she started regularly for most of the season, but correct me if wrong). But there must have been more to it than players simply unhappy about limited playing time, as that is always on issue with some players on every team.

Meanwhile ... Barcelona have been decapitated by international duty losing both Mariona (metatarsal; 3-4 months) and Bruna (acl) in the space of a few days (but I guess it opens up an opportunity for Pina):
