That little guy should have given it away.

This thread is a counter-measure to the overractions on BS over Qwest Field.

So that photo mash-up was a literal symbol of what many people have posted.

See how silly that photo is?

That's how silly some Qwest-haters are.

    Get it now? :D

Would Seattle fans want a smaller SSS? Of course we would. If you haven't been to Qwest field I say don't comment. There is not another stadium we would trade it in for.

When it comes down to building a smaller SSS, I sure hope we don't waste our money on a stadium like the crew or php. Don't get me wrong there nice, but when we have a stadium like Qwest it doesn't make sense. Really what makes a SSS, because i saw gridiron lines on the FC Dallas recap. So is that a SSS or not? I'm guessing it was for a high school football game. How many other stadiums do this?

I would hope we look at the new Red Bull Park and use that as an example of a SSS, because anything else would be a waste of money!!!

I think just about any team would love to play in a place like Qwest. I know that as far as comfort, site lines etc. It is much better than some of the more smaller SSS. I posted a couple of rough crude photos above to show how Qwest would work just fine for us. If down the road the money and deal is right sure it would be great to have an SSS but I am happy to go to Qwest along with 20-25k of my closest footy brothers and sisters. : )

    Saw that too. ********ing classic!

An MLS side rents out to high school football, and let's them line the grass. It was faded but obviously there.

How sad is MLS if it needs to rent out its pitches to high schools?

    That's ********ing major league, Dall*ass?

    What a hoot!:D

Dude. They're controlling the revenue stream (actually, I'm talking smack here, but given the popularity of high school football down in Texas, that's probably not a small chunk of change - hell, it might even be a bigger gate than that which FCD pulls in).

They lined their own field with gridball markings, and valued high school football money above the presentation of their own product.

I don't blame them, I just think it puts some Dallas fans comments into a new perspective. :)

Really? Where exactly are you going to buy these players from? Perhaps you should read up on the structure of MLS.

Funny, considering that the Sounders will get the same deal for MLS at QWest as the Wizards did at Arrowhead...

Says the guy in New Jersey/New York (same difference) who knows absolutely nothing about what sort of deal Seattle MLS will get. Who also has no idea how the Northwest will embrace an MLS team. FFS you probably couldn't even find Seattle on a map.

I'm all for MLS in Seattle and QWest being the temporary solution much like RSL, I just hope that they will have some kind of a plan for a SSS. I'm not trying to rain on your parade (and not that you wouldn't be used to that), but NFL stadiums with gridlined turf are atmosphere killers. You might disagree now, but with time you'll agree.

There will be NO gridlines!!! READ some of the information PROVIDED by Seattle fans and prospective owners. Real grass........ Soccer specific field........ revenue generating opportunities with parking/concessions etc. It will not be an adversarial agreement with the PSA.

That's in Oregon, right? If I drink enough Starbucks, will that make me smarter?

So lets see, the Sounders would pay $6000 to turn on the lights, and make money of food, drink and merchandise sales. Perhaps some Wizard fans can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe thats pretty close to the deal Lamar Hunt received with Arrowhead, primarily because he owned the Chiefs and controlled the stadium.

Have you looked up the MLS league structure yet? Or are you planning on buying Ronaldinho and Kaka for 2009?

Re: The TRUTH about Qwest (photos)

The man leading the investor group would not enter into the fray if he didn't see the proposition as economically feasible. The history of Northwest soccer franchises in the top flight leagues show that we will support our team at or above the league average. The original Sounders were the first NASL team EVER to SELL OUT. We consistently averaged near or above 20,000 fans while in the Kingdome. The Tacoma Stars set league records for attendance while they were in MISL. Adrian Hanauer is not the type of guy who is going to lose or drop one team to FAIL at another. Every last one of us who like Qwest agree that a SSS would be optimal but we also realize the political climate here in the Northwest. Cities/politicians near Seattle are not clamoring to build new stadia because they know that their constituents are not going to support building a new playpen for every sports franchise that demands one. We'll lose the Sonics because of this very issue. We have told NASCAR to find another place. An SSS will be completely privately funded if one ever gets built. KC is not the soccer hot bed that the Northwest is....... they should have never been in the league in the first place. Lamar Hunt and his KC Chiefs money is the only reason they were included.

I got it! Very funny photo essays here! But that last one was funny for me on multiple levels because: hey, you cheated! That second photo (the stadium being demolished) was of Busch Stadium II in St. Louis being torn down! (Oh, oh, oh if only they'd torn it down and put a soccer stadium in its place, now that'd have been nice, though there are millions of baseball fans who'd disagree and will now strike me down :)) Anyway, the final level on which it was funny was I was thinking, "That's right, if they let a soccer team play at Qwest, those hooligans will destroy the place!"

I know hooliganism, thankfully, hasn't been drummed up as a fear. But it's just crazy all the soccer stereotypes that are out there in this country. On one of the STL TV stations, after our stadium vote, the footage they ran with their report (in addition to the council meeting) was of a kids soccer practice. That's right, not B-roll of the actual league that the stadium will host, but Kids. Soccer. Practice. True, they interviewed the kids about whether they were excited, but why wouldn't you show MLS footage, too?

The one thing Green Street got right was their opinion of journos. TV is an especially bad journo medium.

I love how close you are to the pitch. I'm having a hard time deciding where my season tickets will be, all the seats look great.

What about an SSS with gridiron lines? Like they had at PHP, recently. What kind of atmosphere killer is that? And not even pro, or college, but HIGH SCHOOL gridball! At least during USL1 Sounders matches, they're NFL lines.
Like has been said before, there will be NO, I repeat, NO NFL lines at Qwest, during MLS matches. Will you people who have no clue about ANYTHING Seattle read the ENTIRE thread, before posting.

How can it have no gridlines when the seasons overlap? I guess the Seahawks could play on the road for a month or so.

They use a special paint, and solvent, that makes changing lines a very simple process. It takes between 4-8 hours to change lines, depending on what you're changing to/from. The more there is to the layout, the longer it takes, but it's still something that can be done is less than a work day.

Thanks. I wonder why the other stadiums don't do this?
