If you mean a true centipede, we'd need 13 people connected by string, rope, costume, etc. This also means we'd need people to train together to make sure we run the same pace, etc.

If you mean just a group to jog/slog together, that's a whole easier story.

If you mean a moving tailgate, with a BBQ, kegs of beer, tequila and fajitas, under a soccer ball 30 feet in diameter, that is most doable!

All three all easily within the Tradition of the B2B.

    Which will it be?

You can count me and a buddy as two to do options 2 or 3.

Hey can we do it naked too?

(Did I type that out loud?)

I'd definitely be down with number three. I think we have one hell of a promotional idea here.

I'm in for the race, but will not run naked.

Sounds great. Promote the Quakes, MLS and pro soccer in this country.

Swing free, man! Swing free! :)

If we can work out a way to rig up a grill to be moved safely as part of the procession, I will run and cook for everyone. (But not naked. I would have to wear my apron.)

Get your head out of the gutter buddy... :D I think people will have their video cameras out for that--re: boob tube watching... I sense fodder if that happens...

The soccer ball theme sounds good right now. :) I'm up for it if it is at a pace... I don't have the shape to go "marathon" running... if it's a brisk walk I can keep up...

The BAQF would be too big... a good idea, but I would go with something much smaller...

and as a rule, we the lads are keeping our shirts, and our clothes, on... cheers!

I think the tailgate ideas rocks but it seems difficult.
I never imagined a moving tailgate, but if you guys want to put your heads togetherand come up with a plan that would be great. I think our greatest friend for this plan would be tables with wheels. If that's even allowed. I can't imagine we'd take the tailgate the entire length of the race. I think we'd get tired at a certain point and just settle down somewhere along the race path. Wel we certaily have plenty of time to think of something doable.

By the way the Group or Centipede Winner gets a Hospitality Suite at MLS Champion San Jose Earthquakes game against United DC

Oh yeah I forgot. The Quakes FO might be willing to help us out since they're sponsoring the Bay to Breakers.

You're gonna make everyone see your fault line? Let's not take the Quake theme to far!!

After a couple hundred yards, you can tip the kegs, tap them and fire them off to propel your rolling cal/mex mob.

That would be pretty darned fun!!! I'd be up for that if...

    a) I can get the day off of work

    b) MLS, in their infinite wisdom, doesn't schedule the Quakes to play that day.

So, to further the promotion value, would we all don Quakes' kits???

Both times that I've gone, there have been rolling bars. One was a tiki bar! It was pretty cool. This is definitely plausible.

After the elite runners have gone, that's about all that the rest of the crowd (say 80,000 or so) can do. ;)

Don't nix this idea just yet. I'm up for the BIG display. We just need to find a way to safely pull this off.
C'mon, it is Bay to Breakers after all. Ya'll are too worried about your BigSoccer reputations. Maybe I'll dress as Donovan. I already got the hairline, and I know where I can borrow a sports bra.

You are right, all you need is more people and the BAQF is no problem. I'm in.

    Only because... :D

I was there, but with my sweater and slacks on... :p There's a lot of stuff I can't print there...

If we do end up with a centipede--another thought would be rehydrating ourselves... the walk is going to be hella long, from the Embarcadero to the Great Highway.

Also, I have heard of all the other supporter's groups taking part in parades and so forth--this would be good pub as well...

Now, all they have to do is announce the sked for 2005 and our day is more clearer... worry about it when the time comes... cheers!

I just called the Quakes FO. They told me the schedule usually doesn't come out until February.
I just spoke to Ruben and he suggested I take names of people interested in participating. So that I shall do. We'll meet in February or March at the downtown Brit and formulate our plan.

E-mail me your info at luis.cuellar@acwd.com:
    Name
    Big Soccer name
    Telephone with area code
    Home address

You'll be contacted pereferably by e-mail when the time comes.

I have always wanted to do BtoB--especially if someone else wants to drive up there so I don't have to deal with traffic. I can probably convince my husband to join us, and the little guy if he can still fit into the jogger.

Or is this one of those adult male-only bonding events?

I'm not the one heading the effort, but we like to welcome anyone and everyone interested. Openthegate is the best person to talk to. We love to have you and the family aboard.

Bring the in-laws too!!! (or are they outlaws?) The more the better. In a perfect world we'd have a sea of blue marching toward the Great Highway.
As I mentioned in one of my earlier post, contact me if you'd like to attend our brainstorm meeting sometime in January or February.

By the way, does someone know how to make two replica MLS Cup Trophies,
or some variation of this idea?
