Not my joke at all of course, but a damn good one, methinks. Almost as good as the joke of including Team Sweden in the tournament! (and I say this will all possible love to them, of course, poor things)

So far it's been more fun than that totally traumatic tounament Canada last year — at least there's, y'know, grass. (Take that, Canada: Brazil has better facilities than you, at least in this one very important respect.) I mean, hey, if Team Sweden is going to stink up a tournament (and they are doing pretty well on that front so far), they might as well do it on grass and against Honorable Opposition like Brazil. I hope they beat China; I hope they make it out of group play. That's the height of my ambition for them.

The most fun though has surely been the taunting of Hope "Zika" Solo. Teehee, how often does a single stranded RNA virus attain such glory? It's got like only 10 genes fer chrissake! Talk about overachieving.

Apparently you are. Well, Sweden and Germany both seem to suffer from the old, angry, crazy cat lady at helm syndrome, dont they?

Hahaha, USA lost in penalties. As per usual, they are sore losers.

Well, don't be a "coward", head over to the US boards. Take some popcorn with you; the level of delusion over there is downright comical.

Heh heh heh. One of my favorite things is both Solo's 'Sweden won't go far in this tournament' and some US fans echoing her. Clearly some folk need to ponder what 'quarterfinals' and their subsequent 'semifinals' imply in a tournament with a 3rd-place game.

Calling someone a "coward" is a quite strong thing to do, and really quite inappropriate in this circumstance. Forfeiting the game would have been cowardly. Bunkering schmunkering.

I am a little disappointed not to have seen more Swedish-conspiracy-theorizing out there. Sundhage the ex-coach, Gustavsson the current assistant (why he's even an old Bajen ffs!), a penalty muffed by Press ex-Tyresö, an Ikea in every small-town USA... speaking of which, were some US fans at the game really trying to taunt the Swedish team with cries of "Ikea!" in response the to whole "Zika!" thing? 'Cause it sounded like it on my broadcast. Someone tell them to try chanting "Saab!" instead.

So Team Sweden will be in Brazil a little longer than planned. Happily, that means there may be more entries into this odd little contribution: Blågult inifrån, aka the Team Sweden app (but you don't need the app to view this collection of home videos of life in their hotel). That link will take you directly to the flip-flop casting competition, won by (SPOILER!) Linda Sembrandt. forza uppsala!

There were some comments in the USWNT forums about possibly bandwaggoning their strong hockey sides from now on....

Yes, yes it is indeed! And they do it more often than one might think.

Brazil, now, they're looking tough. Mighty tough.

Sweden is 3W-4D-2L against the USA in the past 6 years... Only country to have a winning record against the USWNT in that time. Sweden's also the only country that the US has played in the past 4 years and not have beaten, with Sweden 1-3-0 against the USA since Algarve '13.

Put another way: Sweden is responsible for 1/3 of the losses and ~1/4 of the draws the USWNT has suffered since 2011. They just seem to have the USWNT's number.

The unbeatable nemesis. Murica can chop off their right arms and beat themselves with it - it wouldnt change Sweden would always come out as a winner!!!

FFS. Can't believe they're doing this to us again. What is it Jenson usually quotes - "It's the hope I can't stand"?

Hope Solo: "I don't think they're going to make it very far in the tournament."

Yes, silver will be a shocking disappointment.
