just thought i'd bring up some news...
Racing Genk (belgian jupiler league) is looking for new forwards and wanted Occean but Odd Grenland asks more than 2 million euros for him and theyr not willing to pay that much for a new forward...

WTF kind of comment is this? Are you a 19th-Century ethnographer???

Both players were born in Montréal (or surrondings). They have lived their entire lives in Canada before moving on to the NCAA. The whole point is that they are as Canadian as anyone who's family has lived here since the 1600's or the 1960's, or anyone who went through immigration and got their passport.

Don't spout your garbage on here.

As for the transfer fee, Otto had the best offensive season in OG history and was a key part in their team, in only his first pro year; he is young and promissing. They're not about to let him go for cheap.

In his bio at the Canadian Soccer Assciation, it lists Occean as being from from Brossard, QC. I guess that must be a city in Haiti.

Consider it a trade off. Haiti got Josue Mayard and Gilbert-Jean Baptiste, and we got Olivier Occean and Felix Brillant, although all four of those guys grew up in Quebec and learned their soccer there, so I guess Haiti 'stold' them from us.

do you happen to know his numbers this year? I remember him tearing it up for the Metrostars in La Manga Cup, and then watched in horror as Bob Bradley had him snatched up from under his nose by the team they had beaten (odd greenland). LOL

Pretty impressive. I'm sure Bradley wishes that they had signed this kid BEFORE Greenland had a look at him.

He's won of our better players that didn't get the chance this WCQ campaign under the current manager. With a bit a luck he will be a regular
    at the next Gold Cup.

Thats what happens when you offer 25,000 to him. Thats why there are so few Canadians in MLS. They can make so much more in Europe and play against better competition.

While I don't rate MLS as highly as our amercian friends, I certainly don't think it rates below the likes of the Scandinavian leagues. Yeah, the pay offered by MLS sucks, and the exposure is better in Norway, but I don't think the level of play is any better for OO.

You're drunk! I guess that's why the Canadian National Team team is soooo much better than the US team, anchored by domestic players playing in an inferior league. :D

The point is the brain surgeons who run the Metro Stars offered him 25K to sign.

Thats why the Metro Jokes are the laughing stock of MLS.

Why are you clowns so bitter? Nobody's claiming MLS got money to spend. They offered him an honest amount the team has available for a player with his experience. If Canadians are too good for the league, that's fine! American players who can benefit the USMNT can get that little money instead. It's MLS who signs players not the clubs.

And its MLS who will not benifit from the Million + dollar transfer fee he will Generate.

How many Players end up overseas because MLS is trying to low ball them?

MLS is still around mostly because its biggest investors love soccer and would love the sport to thrive here someday. If you look at the numbers its clearly a labor of love right now. There's NO money in it. MLS is lowballing nobody. It's MLS, like any league short on cash, who gets low-balled. They offer people what they can afford. Do you really believe any European team would offer anything for Ocean right now if he had the same numbers playing for a MLS team? No, they would just show interest publicly, wait a little while and then the player will come to them for practically nothing.

Belgian club Racing Genk have a fresh enquiry for Odd Grenland striker Olivier Occean.

Calm down the MLS debate. Here is more info on Occean.

What do national teams have to do with this.

Canadian players will not make as much as americans in MLS so the go elsehwere. Is that so hard to grasp?
