Having Boca push up while having Gray stay in back?!! I think this stagnates the play of Gray and is killing our defense to offense transition. Gray is better at it than Boca or Walsh. And secondly why is Gray coming off for Hristo??? It should be Hristo for Walsh and move Boca to the backline and allow hristo and Gray to work some magic in the midfield until Nowak returns.

  2. Maximum Bob must think he has to go to 4-4-2 because of the pitch in Naperville, or all the damn injuries. I just don't see that as enough of a reason to turn two of the best MLS center backs, CJ & Boca, into third rate fullbacks.

It's not like he doesn't post anymore.

Steve was right about Kelly Gray. He was utterly misused by this team. He did some great things when he was allowed to play as an attacking midfielder. I liked him.

By the way... is he playing at all anymore? I looked at wikipedia, and it said he "last played for the San Jose Earthquakes."

He was waived by San Jose around June 25th.

If he was utterly misused by the Fire (and I don't disagree that he was), he must have been criminally misued by San Jose, Houston, LA, Colorado, San Jose (again).

...Or, maybe he really was not that good.

Of his 7 career goals and 9 career assists, all of his goals (but 1) and all of his assists (but 3) came while he was with the Fire, while playing roughly half of his games with the Fire (84 of 160) and half with the other teams (76).

He was versatile, though. I thought he was a good utility player, since he could play almost anywhere. He played D, DM, AM, even striker for the Fire. He wasn't great, but he was a good addition to the team, and a pretty nice guy.
