Seems like the quad will need surgery. We may not see him anymore in the Hex, except maybe the final couple games.

Conor, Josh, Pat, Q: there are three "pool" strikers out now (yes, I'm including Twellman). If you ever wanted a spotlight, here it is, for Conor especially as he's seen as fulfilling the target role.

Not the quad but a hammy.

    Not good news either way.

He looks like such a strong, bullish athlete, and you just assume he'd be durable, too. That place in the McBride role for the national team is just calling to him. I hope he has much better luck after this recovery.

He probably came back from injury too early.....

this has nothing to do with it. even the best athletes strain muscles. and even the best athletes try to come back too soon. the man was eager to play (can't blame him) but now it's rest.

but it's got nothing to do with durability.

I'm not saying he's fragile. Again, I hope he has much better luck in the future.

Not to be nitpicking but Ching tore his hamstring and not his quadriceps. The hamstring in the major muscle in the back of the leg running from the gluteus maximus and attaches to the knee ligament. The quadriceps is the major muscle in the front of the upper leg that runs from the hip and attaches to ligaments below the knee. I once tore my quad muscle. OUCH. OUCHIE!! I was shooting in the beginning of a game without properly warming up and SNAP! I want my Mommy! What's that you say? Did I score on the shot you ask? Of course! Upper V Baby!

I hope Ching makes a full recovery. I doubt he will return this season. He will miss at least 12 weeks.

Mcbride is much more durable and reliable than Ching imo. I say Mcbride fills the Mcbride role and Ching competes for a backup slot when he comes back.

Brian will have a pretty hard time making the WC roster now. He has a slight chance of being in form to play in the fall quals but most likely he'll need to have a good early 2,005 MLS season and hope that no big striker shines in the Gold Cup/WCQ meanwhile.

We can't get a break - and yet tied for second. Gotta love it!

I knew I shouldn't have dropped out of Harvard Med school.

Apologies for anatomical error in OP; it was the surgery bit that bummed me out, because (bias disclosure) I'm rooting so hard for him to knock Casey out of consideration.

And amazingly, it wasn't too long ago when one of McBride's nicknames on BigSoccer was "McFragile." Here's to hoping McB's run of form AND health continues.
