I am not impressed with Mark Willams in the Metrostar game. His ball skill, one-on-one, play out of the back, passing -none of these - impressed me.

Are you crazy? He's a European player! He played for THE Shrewsbury Town F.C.

If he wasn't good Andrulis would have made us wait two months for him.

    I bet he's great.

He must have collected one of the fastest yellow cards in league history. Five minutes in, two pretty good bangings, and out comes the yellow!

Does MLS track this stat? How long did it take Clei Koiman to get his first card?

I think I even remember saying that the first time he does one of his usual 3rd division challenges in the league he will get booked.

The tone was set early when defender Mark Williams, in his Crew and MLS debut, received a caution in the fifth minute. The infraction came moments after he hammered Mathis.

"I wanted to leave a little bit on him," said Williams, a veteran of more than 400 English First Division games. "The foul, fair enough, I should have gotten a foul. To get the yellow card was stupid. Obviously I’m used to playing in England, which is very physical. I’ve got to get used to playing over here now."

I give him props for waiting all of five minutes to introduce Mathis to English football.

It certainly wouldn't have been a booking in England. He looked very big and strong, but he'll have to get used to MLS and field-turf. His passing isn't going to be brilliant, though, if he's a classic English-style centre-half...

After listening to Baby Jesus' tirades about how rough this league is, I wouldn't have thought that Williams could stay in a physical game (note: I was being sarcastic).

After that early yellow, he played in the shadows. He didn't make any great plays, but he also didn't make any great mistakes. It seems we have another level of consistency to this team.

I would welcome that level of consistency, especially with the Crew's unnerving ability to give away games late or in overtime.

Might as well give this a bump. Is anyone impressed with this guy? How many fouls has he given away at the top of the box the past two games? Has anyone noticed a great increase in on field leadeship?

    C-
    and thats generous.

i was at giants stadium for the match against you guys a couple of weeks ago, and here were my thoughts, although i think it was his first game so i'm not sure if he's gotten better adjusted with the rest of the crew players...

seems like the type, you know, comes over as an SI, little respect for the league and what they see as a potential lack of talent...that said, there are 2 reasons why i'd love for this guy to get out of the league

    1) was a thug all game, not sure if that will change, and i f'n hate dema, franchino and any other player that doesnt allow for the flow of a soccer game to carry on, and killing creativity with reckless, needless fouls

    2) he's not going to be a difference maker, and i've always thought if you have only 3 SI slots, they should (ideally, and not too far-fetched) be difference makers, and this guy is not going to be that for you guys...that being the case, i'd rather see an american guy get a chance...plus, who was the last great SI defender?

anyways, good luck the rest of the way, i'll be rootin for you guys against DC this weekend

Cogent comments. Are you certain you're a Scum fan?

    In order:

    1) So far the pattern has been for him to have a stupid, hacking foul very early in the match (like, the first five or ten minutes) that draws a yellow card, and then our "hard man" has to spend the remaining 80 or 90 minutes being careful lest he gets a second. A "designated tough guy" carrying a yellow is not of much use.

    2) We haven't had an SI contribute for a long time. Torres was on the bench before he went back to give bibles to savages, Oughton is a part=time player and APC is non-existent. The Crew does less with their SI slots than any team in the league.

So if we have a guy, ANY guy, who's a Crew SI who's actually PLAYING then we're making progress. Sad, stupid and incompetent as that may sound, it's the truth.

I agree with In Bob we Trust--we don't need to import thugs. Maybe he'll adjust, but his second game wasn't too much better. That said, you didn't give up a goal till late in both games--but Joseph's goal was right behind him, and he ended up on the floor, IIRC.

I think he is less of a player than Dunseth. Why did you rid of him? We still like Dunnie in NE.

I have no problem with tough players. Even slightly dirty players. But I want a physical player who can do something with the ball.

I want Paul Ince. Not Mark Williams.

We are asking our coach and GM the exact same question.

it appears from the replay of the NE match that williams statements about being strong in the air and on set pieces was a load of crap. shalrie joseph made him look like he had lead in his shoes.
i don't expect to see him in mls next season. its sad really.

After three games, including a home match, it's safe to open up the floodgates on Mr.Williams.

    Easily a C- at best
Our record with him 0w-2l-1t, which speaks volumes.

It will be interesting to see how the team does without him against the Fire.

I'm guessing he's not in MLS next season unless his last two games with the Crew are outstanding.

*#*#*#*# I like the guy. He is at least a step above Dunseth. How far above time will tell. Dunseth was soft and that confused look on his face he had on the field got old.

Bottom line, he's just not good enough. Facts are facts, three yellow cards in three games, and looks slow. Easily a D- in my opinion, and not only that but he keeps a young man that has talent, and is American no less on the bench.

Kasier get a new interview...questions like

    1. You've played a few games and already have a suspension. That wasn't very smart was it?

    2. Give us an example of your dominance in the air.

    3. I see your girl was in the Sun again last week. Can we get an autographed copy?

I've seen his girlfriend's boobs. Well, a photo of them anyway.

Shouldn't we have seen a link by now?
