I think it would be cool to play the Marcellaise at Revs games. I realize that it is in French, but it sounds cool. http://www.marseillaise.org/english/
Download the one at the bottom. It sounds great.

Well, considering that it's the French National Anthem it would make sense to be in French.

What doesn't make sense is why it has anything associated with the Revolution... other than the fact that the French had a revolution.

    Care to discuss?

It's a great anthem (much better than ours) and very dramatic. Plus, their revolution was much more dramatic than ours. It's just a great song and I think it sounds cool. Other than that, it has no merit to be considered for a Revs game. It would be great publicity and might get the players riled up. Try downloading the one on the bottom (where it says click here to d/l). It's about 6 MB and has a woman singing it.

While I think that most musicologists would agree that the Marcellaise is one of the best National Anthums in the world it is rather inappropriate for a New England Revolution match. Much more appropriate would be:

    M-I-C--K-E-Y--M-O-U-S-E

    ---------YHY?

    Because We Love THEM!

It's a great anthem, and whether it's "much better" than ours is entirely subjective.

I'm happy that their Revolution was much more dramatic then ours in your opinion.

It's a great song, sounds cool, just like any number of other pieces of music composed from century to century.

And yes, as you said, aside from that it has no merit to be considered for a Revolution game.

So how would this be great publicity? How would it get the players riled up?

Taylor Twellman don't look French to me...

Joe Franchino don't look French to me...

Jurgen Sommer don't...well, maybe a little bit, but still...

It's canned music with no relevance to the club, plain and simple.

Considering the way the Revolution have been playing, I'd offer something more dramatic and morose, perhaps Adagio for Strongs by Samuel Barber.

Then again, rather than "Closing Time" being played at the end of every game, I'd get a kick out of "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life" from the classic Monty Python skit.

But then, nobodyhas to agree with my musical tastes.

If we are going by how the revs have been playing, I'd go with one of Mozart's Requiems. Look, I admitted it has no merit. I just thought it would be a cool idea. We could be making fun of the French. Everyone likes making fun of the French. The only ones who don't like making fun of the French are the French. We don't care what they think. We could be poking fun at the French and playing a great piece of music. It's meritless, but fun nonetheless.

How about the Canadian National Anthem?

    Oh Canada!
    Our home and native land.
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
    Glow my hearts
    We see them rise
The true north strong and free.

Haha, that would be a hoot!

We should go back to "Revolution" by the Beatles. We actually played reasonably well the last time that one was serenading the Revs in Foxboro.

Everyone knows Canada is not a country. It's state #51.5 (just because they are big, they get 1.5). Playing Oh Canada! would be a joke because people might actually be tricked into believing that it IS a country (which it is not). As far as I am concerned they can have 3 senators too.

When I was in college I went to a whole bunch of Pittsburgh Spirit matches (MISL - indoor soccer = human pinball) and they used to end games with Rod Stewart singing "Hot Legs" now THAT was funny!

The Mozart Requiem is one of the most sublime pieces of music ever written. I would love to hear that performed INSTEAD of watching the match.

Magpie has the perfect suggestion. We could even all whistle along! "Always look on the bright side of life......"

The French National Anthem for the New England Revolution?

That'd be like hearing "Dixie" played at Yankee Stadium...

Based on the recent performances of both sides, I'd say the French National Anthem might just be entirely appropriate at Revs matches. And, remember, after the French Revolution, heads rolled! Now there's an idea!

    1. I like my medications.
    2. I was joking about Canada
    3. I like the song and then I thought about Taylor Twellman for the national team (2 unrelated thoughts). I then connected the 2 and I got Marcellaise at the Revs games.
    4. The Beatles' Revolution song is more appropriate and they should play it next time they play DC United if Gazza is on the squad.
    5. Barcelona is better than the Revs. Maybe Barca can spot you guys a few bench warmers (Overmars, Sergi, etc.) so you can solve that defensive prob you have and utter crappiness on the wings.
    6. Although #5 was obvious and will be called Euro-snobbery and trolling, I thought it was important to point it out even though it was completely irrelevant.
    7. Right now, Mozart's Requiem would be most appropriate.
