I don't think its official, but if it happens I would call it an upgrade. link: http://www.ussocceruk.com/USsoccerUK_Forum/thread-view.asp?threadid=2289&start=26 Paul.
I like Tritt, but isn't there some kind of fear that he's been contaminated by working under the "leadership" of Hankinson? I am surprised that he's still around...seems like in most sports, when a coach is canned, the assistants go too. I would have to say that the fact that Tritt is still around weighs in his favor for the vacancy.
I'm still waiting for one of the anti-Balboa folks to suggest a valid reason why he's such a bad choice for the position. "He's an idiot" and "He kisses ass" don't cut it.
I think if a head coach is brought in from outside the Rapids the assistants will go. It seems like a new head coach will bring in his guys. I think he is still around simply because another decision hasn't been made. If we're going with a promotion for an assistant, I'd rather have Bliss because he learned from the best while Tritt learned from Hanki.
I don't think they have any. I like the move. I like having guys who built the league on the field helping to shape it off the field.
I like the move as well. He may not have any real GM experience but he has been around the league and around the organization for a long time and I think he will do a good job.
Um...if that means "three" we have Balboa, Trittschuh, and then who is the third?? I remain somewhat uncertain of how the TD of Rapids and the Coach interact/split duties. Then who is the GM as it pertains to judging talent, building a team, and salary-cap-management? That said I would be happy to let Balboa and Trittschuh have a few years to see what they can do with the team, along with whats-his-name to run the buisness. I have a better feel for the traditional football/baseba//basketball set up with a GM (selects and signs players), coach (runs the team), and assistant coaches (for offense, pitching, recievers, etc.). Re: Marcelo Balboa - Techical Director of Rapids Chelo will do well in this role. As Captain of the’94 World Cup Team there are doors that are open to him that are not available to other people. He is also tied into the player pipeline. He knows Howard, McBride, Keller, Reyna, Donovan, and others playing overseas. Chelo also played for Leon in the Mexican First Division, so he was on the inside…and once you are on the inside with the Mexican League, you are always on the inside. His contacts with FIFA will give him some insights on potential players. Would not be surprised to see a youth movement evolve on the field for the Rapids along the lines of what DC United did a few years ago. Not a walk in the park by any means. It will take a few seasons, so ownership, management, and fans need to be patient.
Yeah, the third is Rapids Guv, Charlie Wright. Wright seems to be taking control of the business operations; things like marketing, ticket sales, event operations. Balboa sounds like he's going to have the say when it comes to players. The head coach will probably work with Celo on the player side of things. Ferris points out some interesting things about Celo being on the "inside" of a lot of soccer circles. If true, thats a good thing.
