The 1st by Nalis was amazing and so lucky. Dickov's 1st was just plain ridiculous. He stops the ball off his chest, with his back to the goal and a defender on him. Turns and fires in all one motion...sheer poetry!
being at the ground, i thought that robinson should have saved Nalis's shot and that Seth Johnson should have at least pretended to close him down. When i got home and watched to replay, i was right. The 2'nd goal was just because of terrible defending.
Nalis wasn't closed down because I'm sure none of the 30,000+ in the Walkers Stadium expected him to shoot. However, the Leeds back line didn't go forward, which they should have done anyway to take the attackers offside. Robinson seemed a bit slow to react but he had to see past a lot of players at first and Nalis' shot was completely out of the blue. It was a great shot, though. The second one was classic Route One. You can say the defending was poor but Bent (who was great in the air all day long) and Scowcroft (who is quite capable in the air himself) did well to flick those headers on--and Dickov's trap, turn and volley was so smooth and fast that the move beat everybody, not necessarily the shot. Good goal. The Leeds defense looked much worse on the third and fourth goals--I forgot who was marking Dickov on his second, but he didn't challenge for the initial pass, then slipped and fell. Good curling shot but Robinson was a bit slow to react. As for the final goal, it was a good free kick from Izzet but Scowcroft's header was completely uncontested from inside the six-yard box despite a posse of white shirts in the vicinity. Leeds' defenders were clearly not on the same page, the Foxes are good in the air, and Izzet is a good free kick taker. Not a good combination if you're Peter Reid. Leicester had so many free headers off of free kicks that the scoreline could have gotten much more out of hand, but as Micky Adams said, "we musn't be greedy and I'll take the four goals." NO...
