I suggest Evra from Monaco. He is a very good left winger. He can play both deffensive and offensive.

Rodrigo Taddei is a LW from Brazil and is hopefully better than Mancini. Roma will most likely get him on loan in January from Siena.

Since he is a striker, do you envision him replacing Montella or Cassano if a deal for Karimi ever went through?

I guess he is a middie for his club team and a striker for the Iranian national side.

From the Iranian Sports Press on Nov 30th:

"Ali Karimi has probably just experienced the best year of his footballing career, as he led Al Ahli to the domestic title in the United Arab Emirates. Karimi has almost single-handedly altered his club’s fortunes from also-rans to title challengers. In the coming season, he will lead Al Ahli, as they seek to get the UAE’s second Asian Champion’s League title of the last three years. Karimi had also excelled during the summer as he led Iran to third place during the Asian Cup. His dribbling and technique are unrivalled on the Asian continent. The only question that remains with the midfield dynamo is whether he has what is takes to cut it in Europe. So far, Karimi has refused to test his quality on the European front. However, during the last few months of the year, Karimi has burnt out a little, and his form has dropped drastically. It is unlikely that this will hinder his chances of landing the Player of the Year."

He is recovering from an injury (plus he doesn't really try for his club since he wants to move out soon, and he only has had 2 national team games) , also they're gonna lock this thread, don't talk about Karimi.

For Mancini, I think Roma shouldn't just get rid of him, he's just having some hard times, I'm sure he'll get through it. He did pretty good in Siena game, give him time. Also, this Taddeli guy is prolly gonna turn out to be another Mido.

Mido is good but somehow Roma isn't the club for him, either way whatever Roma does I'm still with them whether they buy Taddelli or Karimi (unlikely).

I envision him gradually making his way into the team, I think he should be a sub at first then he can start working with the team and click, once that's done he'll prolly do good enough to become a key player. Also he won't replace Cassano or Mancini, he is a offensive midfielder.

If Taddei came to Roma, what would be the line up?
    Would Perrotta overpower Dacourt?

I don't like Dacourt, he seriously played terrible versus Dynamo Kiev both at home and away

I haven't seen any reports on the expected transfer fee for Taddei. Has anyone seen anything about the funds? It kills me to think that Chelsea only paid $12 Million Euros for Robben. What I wouldn't give for Roma to have purchased him. The main thing I worry about is Taddei's choice to basically sit out when he didn't get what he wanted. Now, I'm glad that he believes Roma is the place for him but a contract is a contract. As long as the team is paying the promised amount then there is no excuse to sit out. The last thing Roma needs is another whiner. We need a person who plays 100% every game (someone with Gattuso's heart but more offensive talent). Take care.

I don't have the time to chase down his stats but I'd assume that he has very few goals and very few assists. He is an excellent player (that's why I highlighted him), and I would love it if he played for Roma because he always gives 100%, but he is not an offensive threat in the same way that Pirlo, Kaka, or Rui Costa are. He is solid defensively and works hard to keep the ball in the attacking zone, but I don't see him as an offensive talent. Again, what are his stats to make you think otherwise? How many goals did he score last year or the year before and how many assists did he have?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: De Rossi has the talent but he hasn't stepped up in this regard. He has played a role similar to the one I just described above regarding Gattuso: defensive midfielder. He is not doing what Mancini did last year. He is not doing what Kaka does. He is not doing what Nedved does. He is not doing what Robben or Duff do. He is not doing what Figo or Zidane do. I know some will say that Totti is the attacking midfielder but Totti plays so far forward that he is really functioning as a borderline striker. Totti rarely moves the ball from centerfield to the 18 yard box. And I don't think Totti should serve that role. Totti is one of the best players in the world because he does what he does (top of the 18 yard box in) better than most everyone else in the world. Dacourt and Mancini moved the ball from center field well last year. But Mancini is not shining this year and Dacourt is hurt (and has seemed to try to fill Emerson's shoes when he was healthy). Take care.

And never will, different kind of player from the ones you mention.

De Rossi resembles Albertini. (He looks a lot more dangerous in the penalty area than Albertini was though).

The typical italian playmaker, with good defensive capacity, optimal vision of the play and lots of obscure work.

Very good technical skill but not magics a la Zidane. Both because he's not as skilled as a Zidane (or a Totti) and because he will usually avoid any kind of not necessary embellishment. Rather clean and simple plays and brain (something you will notice more and more when he will add experience season after season).

I guess you're not a fan of Italy NT otherwise you would have thought more than once "ah if there was still a Albertini there in the midfield" in the past years.

And De Rossi even adds his ability to behave as an attacker when in the penalty area. No surprise since he started as an attacker in Roma's youth sector.

You won't find many highlights with Albertini's magics in there, yet try asking Milan fans about his importance in the field.

These are good points, and at the end of the day I think De Rossi is progressing well. But my comment about De Rossi grew from a larger discussion about Mancini. Mancini isn't cutting it this season. Someone needs to fill that gap if Roma are to challenge for a CL spot (or I should say that it's highly likely that someone will need to fill that gap since we did win last time out even with Mancini's poor play). Someone else said De Rossi could do it and I responded with the comment that he hasn't shown the kind of attacking skills displayed by Zidane, Robben, et al. (And I know it's not fair to compare a kid like De Rossi to Zidane and Figo--even if Kaka and Robben are kids as well.)

Totti, Montella, and Cassano can't be the only offensive threats on this team. They can be the main threats but we at least need a few more. De Rossi will help in this regard and so will Dacourt when he's healthy. But we need someone to provide the crossing and general ability to run at defenses that Mancini showed last year. If Mancini was a one year flash, which I'm beginning to think he is, then we need someone to take his place. The rest of the midfielders can contribute to the defensive efforts. Take care.

There has been talk of getting Santana from Palermo but Taddei seems to keep coming into the mix and appears to be Roma's #1 choice to get this January.

As for the Gattuso comments, he is a ball winner......period. He has cement feet but is very effective at winning balls in the midfiels and making life easier for Pirlo and Seedorf.

I would say that De Rossi is more like Ancelotti than Albertini in both playing style and personality. It would be great if De Rossi could do for Roma what Ancelotti did for Roma in the '80's. People seem to forget how great Ancelotti was and that he was a Romanista (before he was sold to Roma because Viola believed that he was finished after his terrible injury) in the glory days (not to mention capitan after DiBartolomei left).
