Club Boss Rene C Jäggi told Coach Eric Gerets about a deadline for success two weeks ago. His demand: four points in the home games against Freiburg and Frankfurt or Gerets will be fired. Freiburg was a draw, so this weekend against Frankfurt he is in a must win situation. The situation is a bit surprising as Gerets rescued Lautern in the last season and is doing a pretty good job. It seems to be more than a rumour – especially given Jäggi’s visible nervousness – that Lautern would be dead in case of relegation.
I don’t think he’ll fire him if he gets a draw. He shouldn’t fire him even if they lose. He can’t get a better coach at the moment.
With all the fanfare he was given upon his hire, I find it hard to believe they will fire him this quick. Who would want to take on the job of this team with all that is troubling them?
