The signing of Ukrainian defender Leo Krupnik seems not to have lit the Metros board on fire. Granted he was only a 6th round draft pick this year, but he played a lot for a heck of a good PDL team in Des Moines this year. They went undefeated in their regular season (though they were upset in the 1st round of the playoffs). They also beat the D3 NJ Stallions in the Open Cup and then took the Rochester Ragin' Rhinos of the A-League to OT before losing on a golden goal. On the other hand, their offense was more impressive than their defense.

The MetroStars today announced they have signed former Des Moines Menace (PDL) defender Leo Krupnik as a Discovery Player for the remainder of the 2002 MLS season.

Krupnik, 6-2 and 180 pounds, was drafted out of the University of California-Berkeley earlier this year by the MetroStars in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft in the sixth round (68th overall). He joined the MetroStars briefly for preseason training in Bradenton, Florida, but was unable to fully train with the team due to a bronchial illness.

The 23-year old Ukraine native, who holds U.S. citizenship, played the majority of this season for the Des Moines Menace of the Premier Development League after a stint with the Minnesota Thunder of the A-League.

More Obvious Metro Pandering, this time to the Ukrainian demographic, the People Named Leo demographic, and the Radical Leftist demographic. Don't they know that none of these people will EVER be real Metro supporters?
