http://media.skoopy.com/vids/vid_00662.wmv (Thanks to MyHouse!, in his glorious FFA thread...) I mean, when I was growing up, my parents watched the 5, 6 and 11PM local news, and the national crap, and they gave citizens no actionable information about what happened that day, but I mean the "newsertainment" thing...too much.
I mean, I guess I just look at all "news," and wonder why I can't get any information I need as a citizen on what's actually happened during the day. But this guy, who gets good ratings, has some problems...Fox Charlotte, who became competitive on his back, must miss the good o'l days...
Well said. I swear to God I didn't know this when I posted earlier. I was watching the footage at work with no sound and it was obvious the guy was in recovery.
To be fair, the other mainstream media outlets aren't much better (though certainly no worse). They continue to cover non stories and run after red herrings but the difference being that the News Corp m.o. goes beyond placating advertisers and shareholders.
The guy was a weatherman. It's a pretty dangerous game to interpolate anything about the quality of the newscast from the hijinks of the weatherman.
Excepting how such standards relate to the profit-driven nature of news, such that such employment of a finite amount of time to provide ostensible "quality" is taken up by this. Hell, the GM is handing the guy props in the hall, telling him "see what you can do with this tonight..." See how you can dance and sing with this tonight...see how you can keep our rating up tonight...see how you can entertain us...here we are now...entertain us...
