Can't take this new Clint Mathis anymore. Too many one touch back passes to defenders or to midfielders who can not attack. I want the old Clint attitude-wise who attacks at all times and takes guys on in the box drawing penlties at will and fires at all angles. I do not want the National team player who tries to makes all around him better anymore, I want the guy that shoots and attacks at every opportunity and is aggresive doing so. Now does he exist anymore or was that a result of having midfielders like Chung and others who can actually attack with him?? I have to believe it is in Clint's attitude at this point. We need the aggresive attacking Clint or we are finished as nobody can finish from the midfield on this team. Where is the old Clint that wanted to finish every time he recieved the ball and went forward as he recieved it?
my personal take, i've been very hard on clint as far as his mental game, and his attitude towards the team...recently, the comments he's made appear to be a step in the right direction, which i'm pleased with...he also, looked alright against the crew...we can only hope that our new formation is the right answer, and that last night was an aberration...afterall, this new formation was done to aid the midfield, so that amado had more help, so he could create more, and subsequently, this should help clint attack the way we'd like to see him do so...if we dont take care of business on sunday, there's gonna be a lot of justified bitching going on around here...
Amen to that. Last night was a TEAM failure. No one stepped up. Kudos to Bob Bradley for taking responsibility as well in his post game comments on the MSG website. This team has done enough this year to be considered a #4 or #5 team in MLS. But it has shown no inclination to step it up to a new level. The consistent failures against Chicago and coming out flat in big games against DC and the Revs lead me to believe that a berth in the conference final is the best that we can hope for. Mathis must step up on Sunday. Counterattack will be the name of the game and unfortunately that is the only way this team scores goals.
Watching Mia Hamm on TV seems to me she would be our best midfielder skills wise other Geuvara at this point. Would be great at Corner Kicks, set pieces of all kinds, and great at service. Size and speed wise no, not a chance but what skills.

Just like a war movie quote.... ...."give it up guy. He's gone." (At this point the soldier kneeling next to him closes his eyes).... Face it. He's older. He's had multiple knee surgeries. Those factors alone would cause a player to decline in ability but add in the fact he doens't like to train ultrahard and I doubt he'll every be one of those players who were as good or better than before the injuries (see 2003 Jamal Lewis of the Ravens).

I just said he was getting older. Remember many strikers are considered over the hill at 31-32. I was more commenting on the combination of being hurt so much and not being 20 anymore to bounce back. PS: He turns 27 in Nov. Yes, yes it does. Turned thirty this year. My knees and ankles are letting me know years of hoops and soccer were bad for me.
