ive asked this before in different ways but im stuck on
    this.

what are good practice techniques or web sites for reference on how to get around guys when you have the ball.

ive been playing only for 2 years, my fitness is great, but im pretty below average in terms of moves. i see guys who arent too great fitness wise get around people no problem,
i need to figure out how to develop that timing.
i feel like if i have the ball in the corner and i make a move, the guy gets his foot in just in time to steal the ball....

cant seem to get any better as a player until i can get around guys more than just outrunning them...

Learn to dribble as well as possible. Practicing your juggling skills can help this tremendously.

Just practice.. it takes time. And try this... no matter where you go while at home and all, be 'dribbling' a tennis ball or anything of that sort. Develops ball control, which in effect develops your reflexes and quick moves to leave those defenders feeling stupid.

spend as much time on the ball as possible. whether its just messing around in the yard or actually playing...the more comfortable you are on the ball, the more confident you become with yourself and your ability. soccer is a confidence sport...you can have all the skill in the world, but if you dont have the confidence to use that skill, then all that ability does nothing for you.

When you are comfortable and confident: try viewing video tapes...there are plenty of training tapes on skills and moves. Also, tapes on games. Who is your favorite player, watch them, and their opponents.
    never give up
    Good luck

those slower players can burn people simply because they cause their defender to become off-balanced and then have a huge headstart. try to become aware of when defenders actually buy your feint or stepover(might take a couple moves sometimes) and capitalize on it because just faking a direction won't necessarily cause a defender to become so off-balanced you can get by them. to get good at moves so they're natural just practice em over and over

Just to add to this. You want the defender to go the opposite direction of you. Obvious enough. Basically, unless you have the blazing speed that he won't ever be able to catch you, you need to get him into the belief that you you are going right instead of left.

There are many different ways to do this - (too hard too write about than display.) But, you need to develop, at least, one way of doing this. And when you do develop a move, you need to work on doing it quickly.

Look at a guy like Preki. He's got one move and it works magic for him.

    Simple but effective,

    90 degree angle cuts

swing over ball with your weak foot, and really sell that your going the other way, and then hit it on with outside of ur good foot.

Then, its time to make them look silly, put it thru their god damn legs! :D if u get under the ball and hit em in the bally-ollies, thats just FUNNIER!

2 things that have nothing to do with dribbling or moves or the ball

1-watch the defender's feet - many times there is no move necessary, just take advantage of poor footwork

2-watch the defender's shoulders - example: if you want to beat the defender inside fromthe right, you need to get your left shoulder past his/her right shoulder - a bad shoulder turn is as easy to exploit as bad footwork

i'd also suggest selling a certain move early to get away with the opposite move later

How do you stop people when they dribble at you? What kind of stance do you use and what is your plan? Usually, people want to move them toward the sideline, but what prevents them from just making a cut?? When should you tackle someone and how should you tackle?

i basically give them one direction...i dont "shade" them towards a certain direction, i flat out give them a way, make them go where i want. then i let them make the first move...and if you're a good tackler, you will win the ball. its a matter of timing and making the attacker do what you want.

I'm always playing with a ball. Just keep dribbling around with a ball and everything will start falling into place. Try to focus on one thing at time and master it and move on to something else. For example, this summer I decided I wanted to learn how to scoop the ball from the floor up to my neck, so I practiced everyday until I finally got it.

There is also much truth in the thing about confidence. In soccer, there are four aspects to everybody's game: the physical, the tactical, the psychological, and the technical. Many players lack the psychological aspect.

And some great players to watch to learn how to dribble are:

    Ronaldinho (Barcelona and Brasil)
Cristiano Ronaldo (Man U and Portugal)
    Zidane (Real Madrid and France)
    Denilson (Real Betis and Brasil)

I don't have the best dribbling/ball control skills(it is the thing that I could most improve on), but there are several simple moves that can be used if executed properly to get around defenders.

    1. Simple pullbacks or "L's" can be very effective. I try do do them when a defender has all of his momentum going one way.

    2. The scissors. Someone else said before, just have one of your feet go over the top of the ball, but make it a fake they will go for, then with the outside of the other foot, push it out and accelerate.

    3. If a defender seems inexperienced, unsure of himself, or you think you can outrun him, what works well is just simply outrunning him with long dribbles on the ball. Usually the worst that happens is he kicks it out for a throw-in for your team.

Those are the moves that I use most often and are not very complicated.
