I say he keeps a clean sheet for five home games, then gets scored on, even though Man U still wins. I'm a dreamer, but who expected him to start in the first place? Howard's End was a good flick - people can also call Timmy "Sir Howard" as a ref to Sir Hopkins starring in that movie.

Our premiership keepers played 5 games each, Friedel allowed most goals at 11, Keller 9 and Howard just 2. I have seen 4 out of 5 Man U games and Howard has had a few easy games not much to do. Of course he has a very good defence in front of him . Arsenal should test Howard on Sunday at the level that Southampton has a few weeks ago or maybe more so. Who do you think are the other teams that will be a big challange to Howard ? the teams that come to mind are Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool, Everton, and Blackburn.

That sounds about right-- but by the time he gets around to playing those teams, his confidence and how comfortable he'll be at Old Trafford and in Ferguson's first XI, dealing with those teams' attacks shouldn't be much of a problem. When does Man Utd play each of those teams listed above? Anyone know? I think the Manchester derby is sometime in December, IIRC, but what about the rest? Still early days yet. But you can't fault him for making a strong initial impression.
That's true! I'd forgotten all my Confed Cup posts (due to our rather poor performance - I tend to block out painful associations). In this current thread, I was also pretending to be more objective than I actually often am. I was pulling for Tim all along. It's funny that I couldn't put that past BS posters with good memories and a recall post feature. "Perfect" is also different from "lasting" which would seem to better justify a sexual connection. Because, at least this time, I wasn't going for the double entendre. I also think Chelski and Liverpool will score on Timmy - but I'm not sure how strong my prophetic powers truly are.

Thanks for providing this, SF. Very helpful, indeed.... My analysis/thoughts... Can't wait for this one tonight (nighttime here), obviously. We will get the game here live on pay-TV, via Fox Sports 1 at 1 a.m. Sunday night, but we don't get that channel on our cable system here in my town. So I'll have to settle for the webcast from www.manutd.com (if I can figure the damn thing out)... The fact that Tim's played against the Gunners already this season, in the Community Shield match, may give him an advantage in tonight's match. Should have an easy time of it against the Foxes. Could be tricky, since I think that VfB gave Rangers some troubles this past week? Should be another couple of easy games for Man Utd, and Timmy. Six points out of six, and perhaps two more clean sheets. The back-to-back games against 'Gers could be a bit tricky, for the emotionally-charged cauldron-type atmosphere, if for no other reason. These games may very well say a lot about Tim's mettle as a big-game 'keeper. But perhaps another couple of clean sheets against Premiership opposition. Probably not the kind of game Man Utd need following a high-pressure match in the Champions League. However, Tim will be quite battle-tested by big-name foes by this stage, that's something that won't be in doubt. A battle between two American 'keepers, Howard v Friedel... what more needs to be said? Should be a repeat effort from this past midweek's affair. No worries for Tim. Likely four points out of six for the Red Devils. Chelsea will up to this point be the toughest opposition outside of Arsenal that Man Utd will face in the league, and could put a couple past Howard. Tim should get a clean sheet against Villa, however. Once again, another tricky Champions League match, but playing at home in the "Theatre of Dreams" will help. Ah, the Manchester derby, with two guys with New Jersey backgrounds, Howard and Reyna, facing off against one another (hopefully). Will definitely be exciting to watch. I wouldn't count on Tim to get a clean sheet in this one, Man City have a very potent attack this season. But maybe a key save or two can play a role in United winning the derby. The way Spurs have been going lately, could be chicken feed for Man Utd and Howard. But who knows, Spurs may get things right by this point. All things considered, though, might be an easy match for Tim. The one intangible, however, is that Howard goes up against Kasey Keller in yet another showdown between American goalkeepers... Perhaps two of Man Utd's easier matches so far, at least on paper. However, will the two-matches-in-three-days stretch take something out of them, and perhaps Howard as well? I think Tim's got the mental and physical maturity to deal with it, and play well. All in all, while November could be a tricky stretch, I think by the time we get to January, Tim Howard's calibre will be well-proven as one of the best 'keepers in the Premiership. One thing's for sure, he won't embarrass himself, and will definitely be playing at the same high level he's enjoying now.
