Euro 2004 in the USA (important) I am making an inquiry for my university's(Georgia Tech) cable network, they requested I find which channels (even non-american channels) will show Euro 2004 matches. That way, students at my school will be able to watch Euro next year. I am excitied at the prospect of watching Euro live, but I haven't found any information yet on who will carry the games. Will ESPN Deportes? Gol TV? Canal 5? I would appreciate any feedback.
IIRC, Fox Sports World carried most (maybe all?) of the Euro 2000 games. I wouldn't be surprised if FSW picked up the rights to Euro 2004.
FSW picked up the delayed rights. Setanta will probably purchase the live rights and show them on close circuit/PPV. Like in Euro 00, rights for the U.S. market probably won't be settled until 2-3 months before the tournament.
I'm hoping that Setanta will have it on their new channel that they are talking about having by the end of the year.
Setanta have confirmed that they have acquired the rights to Euro 2004. So it will be on PPV and closed circuit in the US.
It's not sound business-wise. If they can sell a PPV package at $150, or charge $20 a head per day in the pubs, why would they put the games on a $20/month channel? They might televise the games on their $20/month channel, but most likely only after the whole tournament is over, i.e. they keep the delay rights instead of selling to FSW...
I also purchased the whole tournement in 2000 but I fear that Setanta will only show 2004 tournement in bars. Look at the qualifiers today, they are only being shown in bars. This is Setanta testing the water and if it goes well, they will do the same for the championship. This is a major step backwards for us.
That canadian satalite is getting closer and closer to my house after yesterday I drove 60 miles to go to the Playwrigh bar in Stamford Ct. Pay my $20 and go in. I see that the Ireland game is on but the picture on their screens is apsolutely crap. The picture keeps breaking up and is full of lines when it is on. I figured maybe it was the feed from RTE in Ireland and waited for the England game to start. What do you know after taking my $20 bucks they tell us they only have one satalite receiver and they are going to stay with the Ireland game. Now it is an Irish bar so I can't blame them for that but they should have let us know we were going to miss the 1st 25 minutes of the England game. Well they finally changed the channel and what do you know the picture was just as bad. They must have some bad equipment at the bar Should we expect more of this for the tournement?
The England game started at 1pm and I would think that college football had the PPV slots for that time. I doubt they were testing anything.
not true at all... setanta is has been worried for some time that people are illegally getting these games on their home ppv's and not paying a penny <descramblers and the like> and also that bars are paying the "home" price instead of the "bar" price to show the game...that is why they eliminated home ppv for the time being.
well, those are the problems that everyone who puts sports on ppv has, they aren't new problems. But this was the first England game I can remember not on PPV, and on the channels that usually has England was College football. But, I guess we'll see next summer.

Folks, when you make guesses, at least do some research. Turkish home games have been broadcasted by Turkish small dish service for years. That service is called DFH (Direct From Home, the name itself doesn't make sense at all). It's a Ku-band service. It carried three major channels from Turkey: ATV, NTV and Star TV. One of the channels (forget which) has Turkish 1a. ligi every weekend. Two years ago, this service had been on free-to-air mode on T5. That's why I could see the Turkey x Sweden epic World Cup qualifier (that Turkey lost 2-1 by giving up 2 goals in the last 5 minutes). I still have that game on tape. Turkish road games have frequently been broadcasted by TRT International, an unscrambled channel on T5. Now, was England x Turkey (the game at Sunderland) on TRT Intl.? No, because Setanta purchased the residential rights, and prohibited TRT Intl. to show the game to world audience. You know, what the USA audience can see usually dictates what people in South America, Asia and Australia can see. We are the richest audience. Was Turkey x England (the game this past Saturday) on DFH? it was supposed to be. Oliver even mentioned this about 6 weeks ago, when someone questioned why this game is not on residential (DirecTV/Dish) PPV, BECAUSE DFH WAS SUPPOSED TO SNAP UP THE RESIDENTIAL RIGHTS. I don't know whether DFH had it as PPV or televised it on one of the three channels. On DFH's online schedule, it has a 3 hour block's programming remained unspecified. I live in England, and the game was on TRT, I am not sure you American get that channel, you probably get trt int, which is different, also the game was on Dubai Sports, do you get that channel?
Yes, we get Dubai Sports. However, in recent months, all the Euro qualifiers on Dubai Sports are limited to terrestrial distribution (Dubai only). The satellite feed, which's from Dubai Sports Europe, has inserted junk programming during the time the Euro qualifiers are broadcasted. As far as I remember, the last Euro I saw on Dubai Sports was Ireland's 2-4 loss to Russia, which was the beginning of this ECQ campaign.. I was out of town so I don't know whether the Turkey x England game was on Dubai Sports on T5 (over the American sky). Anybody knows?
