The main stands were complete (and filled in soon after kickoff). The opposite-side stands were only built up in the middle (so the left and right sides were tarped). But they also had more lumber stacked up, so those stands should get built soon.

Yeah, they might have under-judged the turnout for that game. Got lucky finding a parking spot. And it would have been nice to see the field while waiting in line for pizza and pop. (Missed the PK call; but just got back to see the kick.)

And on a personal note, I'm originally from Hamtramck. It was kind of surreal seeing this in what was my high school's field. Almost thought of parking at my old house (still in my family) and walking there, just like the ole' days.

yes.... some of the stands are still being renovated.... i dont think they have drawn near that number since the opening game.. .but that is to be expected... i bet they are averaging over 5000 game.. and for D4 soccer, that is impressive.

Detroit City FC will take to the pitch on Saturday, June 25 in recognition of Freedom House, a Detroit-based nonprofit organization that supports individuals fleeing persecution from around the world.
In support of Freedom House and refugees’ basic human rights and dignity, and in our effort to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment, DCFC players will wear commemorative jerseys for the June 25th match against Dayton Dynamo at Keyworth Stadium.

article says 5-6 years til a MLS team comes to detroit... thats a long time for DCFC to get further entrenched in the soccer culture in detroit.. if MLS does come, i still see DCFC surviving, but with the loyal following they have now, but not get any bigger

Detroit City FC to host Glentoran FC for Detroit Cougars Tribute Match on May 27
    11/26/2016, 9:45am EST

    http://www.detcityfc.com/news_article/show/726660?referrer_id=1533258

The Detroit Cougars Tribute Match at Keyworth Stadium will honor the 1967 Detroit Cougars team, which was represented by Glentoran FC.

The origin story of the Cougars is one of the most intriguing untold stories in Detroit sports. In an effort to bring professional soccer to the United States following the 1966 World Cup, the Cougars were one of 12 founding members of the United States Association (USA), a national league comprised of teams imported from Europe and South America.

The international teams were chosen to represent different cities across America, with Glentoran selected to play as the Cougars.

Well, the supporters aren't buying in, the DCFC owners however are wait and see...

"DCFC’s owners have had conversations with the MLS group and say they will continue to discuss possibilities, but with potential expansion plans years away, and land usage issues at the crux of the debate, the likelihood of either outcome is hard to tell right now."

Detroit City FC will welcome Venezia FC, of Venice, Italy, for an international friendly at Keyworth Stadium on Tuesday, July 18 at 7:30 PM.

The international match is presented by Quicken Loans and the Detroit Pistons.

The friendly marks Venezia’s first-ever match in the United States.

Founded in 1907, Venezia is coming off one of the most successful seasons in its history, including winning Lega Pro, the third division of Italian soccer, thereby earning promotion to Serie B, and winning the Coppa Italia championship.

So Gilbert and Gores, the two guys wanting to bring an MLS side to Detroit, are setting up an international friendly for Detroit City FC.

Do I smell a partnership brewing?

Its not just brought to you by Quicken Loans or the Pistons. Its brought by the combined effort of the two entities, aka MLS Detroit. I dont see how this isnt some kind of partnership. What it all means is to be determined.

Is it goodwill so that the diehard soccer fans in Detroit hopefully warmup to their prospective team?

Is it actual investment in DCFC?......maybe they acquire Detroit City, move them to USL D3 as their affiliate, allow them to do things they want to as far as the supporters go and maintaining their culture?

Maybe theyre building up DCFCs brand because they want to acquire it and make Detroit City the MLS team?

Wild speculation. They cant just be doing it out of the kindness of their hearts though. Theres something beneficial to them.

seems a lot of MLS teams are running a team in USL or NPSL as their reserve squad... maybe that is the partnership... you keep your DCFC team in Hamtramak, we will partner with you and your brand and have a built in, recognizable name/team as we enter MLS and who knows, maybe Northern Guard will jump on board since the MLS team would be an offshoot of the NPSL original. i have zero inside information, just on the outside speculating as well.

Some of the MLS 2 teams in USL are MLS owned and some are just affiliated with a MLS team. Either scenario could be good for DCFC and MLS Detroit. It would be beneficial to build on what DCFC started and for the MLS group to support the effort.

I think the type of relationship that Houston has with Rio Grande Valley would be good. Let DCFC handle their business on their own (their stadium, their branding and marketing, ticketing and concessions and merchandise....and the MLS team will control their soccer operations, signing all their coaching staff and players for them and paying all their salaries. If MLS Detroit covers the cost of player salaries (because its their players) and maybe helps DCFC with any expansion fee USL D3 might require, DCFC should probably be able to handle the funding of the business operations, even at D3 level.

A problem that I think might be encountered is DCFC fans wont be okay with being the 2nd team to an MLS team that has the same identity as them. Either MLS Detroit acquires DCFC and moves them from NPSL directly to MLS.....or leaves them to be their own independent lower division team and business and just affiliates with them on some level.

I could see DCFC fans prefering to avoid USL since its in bed with MLS though. They could potentially join that other D3 league thats in development (i dont know its name, Wilt is involved) but that would complicate a relationship with the MLS team since their 2nd sides are in USL.

Itll be interesting to see how it shakes out.

I assume that DCFC will be a founding member of NISA (NASL aligned D3 league) next year. I wonder how that will play into the whole MLS investor group and DCFC drama?

You know that whole family of leagues will appeal more to DCFC, especially their diehard supporters.....and it's not compatible with MLS and it's partnership with USL. It is what it is. Maybe they just call it a day and walk away from the negotiating table.

In the meanwhile.....Garber and Gores are more than welcome to invest in another rust belt city that has Detroit affiliate teams, Toledo... (Tigers/Mud Hens & Red Wings/Walleye). We support our minor league sports well here. We have strong youth soccer clubs here but the only real team in Northwest Ohio is our PLA (like 5th division) team Toledo Villa. I've talked to their president and they're interested in moving to PDL then eventually USL D2 or 3 if funding is there. G&G could help them with that quite easily.

    I'm clearly biased. Just sayin....
