Title says it all. I believe the match is against Haiti. http://www.coloradorapids.com/site/goal.asp?cid=440
Well so much for playing our bench against Guatemala so our starters can rest! Great op for those 4 though!!
I bet Nat is excited about this opportunity. Do the U-23 get paid for their apearances like the full Nats?
Rapids may very well bring in a few non-rostered guest players for the match against Guatemala. Wouldn't be the first time.
Someone please enlighten me here... Does the national team (U-23 or otherwise) give a damn about how calling up a player effects the club teams when the call up happens during the post season? Is it just a matter of you get the call up and you just go, no questions asked? I noticed the U-23 olympic qualifying schedule starts right in the middle of our playoffs and a lot of the U-23s are also MLS players. It doesn't look like there are any U-23 games actually scheduled for the same day as MLS playoff games but hypothetically, if there were, then what? I know a call up is a HUGE deal but I can't imagine a national coach depriving a player of the chance to help his club team win a cup.
Good ol' Allison at the Post had the camp on SUNDAY the 15th, with the game on the 16th. Way to go, ace!
No [R] in thread title, so let me just say, go read this: http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/NationalTeams/20031015211222/view And I'll give you a quote to whet the appetite: "The highlight of the match was the solid play by a new-look US backline led by surprise MLS standout, Nat Borchers. Borchers made a very strong case for a spot on Coach Glenn Myernick's team with his neat and efficient defensive work ..."
Thor...bug... Nat's a Nat? Thor is a hit on his U23 debut. "The match, played in front of an estimated 9,700 pro-Haitian crowd at Ft. Lauderdale’s Lockhart stadium, was a tune-up for the US team’s first CONCOCAF Olympic qualifier next month. The highlight of the match was the solid play by a new-look US backline led by surprise MLS standout, Nat Borchers. Borchers made a very strong case for a spot on Coach Glenn Myernick's team with his neat and efficient defensive work which shut down the Haitian attack all night." http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/NationalTeams/20031015211222/view Edit to add this quote which mentions Beckerman... " David Stokes and Borchers, along with defensive midfielder Kyle Beckerman, prevented Haiti from getting any good goal scoring opportunities."
1-0 to the US, Edson Buddle with the goal. USA: Countess, Lewis, Borchers, Stokes, Wingert, Beckerman, Johnson (Schmidt, 85th min), Carroll (Trembly, 76th min.), Martino (Donovan, 61st min.), Buddle, Eskandarian (Testo, 46th min). Subs not used: Akwari, Saunders, Stone.
All four Rapids get playing time, with Borchers and Becks singled out for their good defensive play. Nice job, guys. Anyone know if this was the Haitian U-23 team or the full Nats?
