It’s funny how all these people with their anti-American sentiments live here and probably cheer for the Raiders, Dodgers, and Lakers. Yet despite these assumptions, they turn any match between any US based team versus a Mexican based team into an anti-American bash. A few things they should know: we don’t all support the Bush administration. some of us support immigration as long as it is done legally. the US is in the middle of a housing slump that could cause another depression. We are just as f---d as the rest of the world. after working a full day/week, we want to be able to enjoy our sports without having to be spat at, yelled at, and judged because we support the opposite team. we don’t understand why you live in the United States if you hate it. Is it that hard to go back to your country of origin? most of us don’t own stock in Halliburton so don’t blame us for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We have nothing to gain. Gas is still over 2.50 a gallon. sports are supposed to stop wars, not create them. Hate the Galaxy all you want. Find interesting ways to mock the team’s name. Confront your own male attraction tendencies by calling our players gay. Talk about how we cater to celebrities (Hello, the team is named Galaxy because Hollywood is filled with stars not because of the smog filled nighttime sky). Do whatever you want but chill with the anti-American chants and rhetoric everytime a US club plays a Mexican club or any club/nation from around the world. Seriously, if it wasn’t for the US you might all be hailing the fuhrer and imperial emperor.
Amen. And for what its worth, my wife immigrated here legally from Europe and its a long, drawn out, very costly process thats very invasive with several background checks at each point in the journey, checking not only my wife and I, but our immediate families and relatives too. INS has to day 6 full prints of my wifes fingers... what point are they trying to drive home? She is the last person who would commit a crime, for heavens sake. Yet I cant fathom how we let people pour across the border unattended, how we choose not to check IDs, or how we dont impound cars of illegal drivers anymore. I think our government has been failing the public for years and years now. And not just with immigration concerns. Things like the rising debt we have with China and the devaluing of our currency too. The secret SPP superhighway and dont forget the Bohemian Grove where world leaders and elitists prance around naked for two weeks every year up in Northern California worshiping a 50 ft owl and sacrificing a human effigy to it. SICK. Bush, Reagan, Carter, Nixon, Johnson, Clinton... all a bunch of sick people. Kennedy was our last hope. Amen, and may the force be with you. There was a CD Chivas fan standing in front of me right in the middle of 138...ballsy yes, but he had a baby in his arms as he kept telling everyone around him that chivas won 3-0 and he was only there because he wanted to see a Mexican team beat a US team. Now there's all kinds of wrong about him being right in the middle of Riot Squad but I'm not going to get into that (but he's lucky that 99% of us are mature fans of the game) but I just wish some of the multitude of Mexican jerseys at the HDC lastnight would buy into MLS and support their local US club. Also, while there was an incident where a couple of Pachuca fans jumped a Galaxy fan right next to 138 after the final whistle blew, the majority of the fans there lastnight we're taunting in good fun. There's always a few bad apples that give everyone else a bad name. And finally, if RS wasn't there lastnight that would have been the most one-sided Pachuca crowd. P.S. Pachuca only sings when they're winning.
I think we can talk until we are black and blue in the face. People won't understand and they will still group us all together. I wonder if the worldwide anti-American sentiment will prevent foreign players from wanting to play here. That is an issue we have not touched on.
Another interesting thing of note. From the tv I could see people in the stand wearing other Mexican league team shirts. Why do you want to be that loser? Who cares that you really like Pumas, America or Chivas when you are watching a Pachuca game? That’s like the loser who wears a Yankees jersey to a Red Sox vs. Angels games.
Leave the anti stuff to the politicians and media. Normal, ordinary people, in the majority, seem to get along just fine, particularly those that love the beautiful game, work hard, try to act decently, and want the best for their hearth and home. Well, that certainly rules out politicians and media.
The so-called worldwide anti-American sentiment has mostly to do with current US forigin policy then playing soccer.
oh contraire mon frere.Soccer explains the world in more ways than one. Did you hear the anti-occuption rallying cry from the Iraqis when they won the Asian Cup?
How is this different than all the non-galaxy fans pulling for them in the in-game thread? And the fans in our very own CDC forum that said they'll be cheering for the Gals because a win for them is a win for the MLS? In both instances, I do agree it is stupid. Lets just not point at the Mexicans alone - for once. Besides, a club's international exploits are theirs alone. If they would've raised the cup last night, all the other teams weren't going to come out of the locker rooms to celebrate on the field.
If Chivas USA was there playing Pacuca, I would have been rooting for the Mexican team too! With 4 trophies in their case this year, I'd say they have been singing a lot.
