Actually, it's my fault. Or more accurately, my niece's fault.

I had to miss the 2000 home opener (a nasty debacle of a game) to go to her wedding and it's been downhill ever since.

Good, I was convinced it was because I changed my license plates form a Dale Earnhardt theme to DCUFAN - within the space of a year, we were in the cellar and Dale was dead ...... but the plates are too cool to change.

Hmmm... now that you mention it, it was in 2000 that I changed my plates to MLS DCU.

Well, since we're talking curses. 2000 was the season I moved my season tickets into the Nest.

    Curses!

I understand his pain. Except it was my nachos on the ground after the Columbus match. In my excitement of DC getting into the playoffs I threw my dinner into the air infront of LaNorte. While still in Party mode, I watched as Brian McBride scored to keep dc out of the playoffs for one more game. I then fell my ass back into a seat and put my feet on the chair on the seat in front of me, and tucked my head into my hands and contemplated ending all the pain. i looked forward and saw my nachos laying on the ground. cheese and salsa resting in their spicy grave.

This is the most depressing post I've ever seen in my entire life and if the image of your hastily discarded nachos broken and dirty on the ground doesn't sum up the last few years of DCU fandom, I don't know what does.

Whew. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I was a season ticket holder in the early years, and in April of '99, I got my current job, and then this wack schedule that hasn't allowed me to get out to games more than once or twice a year. I had already bought my tickets for '99, but couldn't renew in 2000, and haven't had them since.

Not to worry, though - Next season I have an agreement with the powers that be to alter my schedule, and I will be back in the stadium again.

Not quite the curse of the Bambino, but I just have one thing to say on this subject.

    Albright for Lassiter.

We did win our last MLS Cup that year, but once Lassiter left after '99, we never did replace his production (not really counting those exasperating Conteh goals).

I thought it was my fault, I moved from D.C. to K.C. during the 1999 MLS CUP (I watched the match during a lunch break in St. Louis) and the winning ways seemed to transfer with me to K.C. in 2000.

So when are you coming back to DC? We need you like Tony Meola needs Krispy Kremes.

I'm sure it's my fault. 2000's the year I started going to games in person.

    One of these years.

My ability as a local luck charm ended when I moved to Tampa as the Mutiny folded and since I've moved to London, we've been attending some Spurs matches this season and they've been blowing serious goats with poor Kasey Keller being hung out to dry.

Based on that, I've become a curse, so I don't think you want me back.
