    Nick,

Coming home from tonight's game, I thought about how lucky we are to have a cup final on our field. This is big.

    2 things.
-It's a big game. Do what you have to do to get the football lines off the field. We have seen that it can be done. Find some extra cash, and get it done.
-This team has done no marketing all year. At all. I'm sure every ESC member, will bring a few friends. ESC will be rocking on the 15th. It's your job to make sure the rest of the stadium is not empty.
There have been a lot of people who may not come week in/week out, but they do pay attention to what goes on with this team. People love finals. Market the crap out of this game. Even if you get 20,000 people...Thats a victory for MFO. It proves that if the right product is on the field for the right event, people will show up. Give the team a home field advantage. Give the fans who have been here from the start a atmosphere they've only dreamed of.

To everyone else. Bring your friends. And most importantly, bring yourself. You've had to deal with a lot in 8 years. It's payback time now. Makes it all the more sweeter.

There has to be a sponsor out there or somebody willing to kick in for the monies to both remove the lines and put them back on.

No excuse not to spend $$$ on advertising. They can easily get the money back by selling Metro t-shirts on game-day with "US Open Cup Championship" on them for $15 a pop.

Anything less than 20K is a disgrace.

I absolutely agree that Nick should promote the hell out of this game (ya wanna make up for that China game right?)
But some people who don't know the MLS, can't understand why there are 2 cups in this league. I tried to explain it to a few non-soccer people at work and they all had blank stares.
What's even worse, It's on a Wednesday and mid-week attendence is "iffy" at best

To Nick and MFO, this is my amateur marketing idea:

    1) Advertise that this Cup is the second oldest in North America (slightly younger than the Stanley Cup if I'm correct).
    2) It's a single-elimination tournament. "Your Metrostars" have won every single game in the tourney.
    3) It's against the former team of Bob Bradley, who has won a few cups himself.
    4) It's being played at home.
    5) This is the first final for the Metros (obvious)
    6) Anyone who comes to the game with an "Open Cup" (meaning empty) will get it filled with beer for free! Hell, it's worth a try!

Since it's a USSF event MLS is not big on kicking in tons of cash to promote something they didn't organize. Hopefully the two organizations can work together to get the word out. Considering the USSF's track record on promotions I'm not expecting a big ad campaign.

The jackels on the Fireboards are yapping that we won't get 4k out to the match, ho-hum another win at Giants Stadium, etc. yadayadayada.

    1. We really need at least 20k and a field without the NFL lines for this classic.

    2. We need to snuff the Fire in the Swamp, and really start a new tradition. These goons -- team and fans -- are aven more obnoxious than the Dizzies, if that's possible.

Note -- they were up a man on the Rapids for the last 10 minutes of their match last night, but Rapids still managed the equalizer. And Chi couldn't score in the overtime.

In other words, they couldn't pull a Metro.

We are the Komeback Kings, but at the OC Final let's Komeback before Chi even gets on the board! Send them home severely chastized -- zero for conduct -- punish them for impersonating a soccer team -- etc.

It's our year; the rest haven't figured that out yet!

Not that I want it any differently but why is the game here instead of Chicago? How come we are hosting it? Point totals?

    Just curious

I bet the fact that the fire and metro are both owned by uncle phil has something to do with it.
He probobly offered the USSF to pay half of the swamps rent if they hosted it here.

Please defeat the Fire in this game. And I really hope your FO does something to get this game to 20K+. I'll be watching on FSW and rooting for the home team.

  10. At a minimum, MFO should run ads in the area papers.

At $3,000 for a FULL PAGE ad in the NY Sun, you only need 200 people at $15 each to recover the investment.

    Same with the Jersey papers.

NY Post & Daily News rates are higher but still worth the price, imho.

Do we really want to post in the New York Sun???????????????

This game is the most important event in Metrostars history. We have to win this game for one reason. The Chicago Fire. That team, from top to bottom pisses me off so much. They act as if they are some sort of world beaters, and look down on everyone. If they get trounced, they will only ahve themselves to look at.

There has to be a crowd of over 20K, closer to 30k then to 20. My brother is going to go with a couple of his friends. I can't go, because I am in Boston (a day later, and I'd be there...........damn it). Anyway, spread the word to everyone.
