    Today saturday

How in the world did this happen? How in the world did Atlas do it? that was shocking you have to admit.

Santos tying Monterrey when they were down 5-2, Blanco with the hat trick. This was a strange day indeed.

teams didnt have players coming from national team duty, was it the rain in the stadiums that damaged the pitch, what is the explanation? (mine is goalkeeper errors combined with the bad pitch conditions)

    Jaguares 1 0 Veracruz
    Santos 5 5 Monterrey
    Tigres 2 1 Necaxa
    Morelia 0 3 U.N.A.M.
    San Luis 1 5 América
    Atlas 6 1 Irapuato

At 43rd minute I had it all the score called and my 3 points. But too bad Blanco created some diffcult situations.

    About the Atlas result.

We saw one of the dark sides of the MFL in that game. How in the world could a team in such a crisis change coach and then win 6-1 with only a few days of training under him? This goes to show that players in mexico get together and DECIDE TO PLAY WELL TO GET THE COACH FIRED!

it happens all too often. We saw what happened to Trejo and Carillo.

I think you are referring to Ricardo Martinez Quiroz, and he's not as old as some of the other GKs like Adolfo Rios.

    Back to the original question

I think most MFL teams have recently acquired talented forwards and Midfielders. Most teams seems happier acquiring forwards than a central defender. Although their is good amount of South American keepers.

I was watching the Toluca-Chivas game yesterday and the MFL needs some keepers. Phew! Some of those guys couldn't even play in the US A League.

ah yes, my mistake. even at his age Rios is a far better GK than Martinez ever was or ever will be.
A think that ive seen of Martinez is that he throws himself a destiempo...luckily for him the shots are wide.

actually the ones that scored most of the gems (4) were Perrone(2) and Morales(2), players that quirarte was not giving any PT to.

    Re: Toluca v Chivas

if you are referring to the young keeper, he got baptized yesterday. After Sanchez got red carded, he had to come in. But Sanchez and Cristante are 2 quality keepers.

Well, you may say that they wouldnt be able to play in the US A league, but could it also be that MLS goal keepers are not under contant bombardment? The MFL is a high scoring league because more emphasis is put on attack and clubs acquire offensive players more.

good point although I have to say that the best mls keepers could do well in the mfl. Keepers from the USA are known for their quick reflexes and that would be an advantage to the constant bombardment he he he.

    who knew?

    41 goals last weekend.....

    2 games with 6
2 games over 7.....either the strickers are too good or defenders and keepers are a knoch lower.

  13. While on average talent level in MFL is better than in MLS, goalkeeping is far worse. This probably has something to do with it.

could it be that the rain played a part of it.

the week where they scored 30 just on saturday... the fields were wet and played a part...

but your comment about the goalkeeping being far worse is not accurate.. The MLS does nto have good strickers so its not liekt he GK is constantly being attacked???

You are talking about a league that has all of its stars... and on top of that... minimum has 2-3 national team players from each south american national team (except Brazil)... It is a potent league

    Oh no--football lines....

I was watching Pumas and Cruz Azul on Saturday and there was football lines on the pitch. Anybody know why?

  16. u no doubt watch more mfl than i, all i can vouch for is the games i've watched, which are quite a few. Having been a keeper and not a good one i know what poor goalkeeping is.

Honestly, it seems like it is not coached very well. Keepers have the athleticism lots of time, but often go to ground early, for my knowledge don't handle crosses well at all, and are prone to give up more rebounds. I don't think I've ever seen a mexican league keeper parry away a shot diving either way with the upper hand as to ensure the ball goes over the bar instead of back infront of goal.

I wonder also if this is not a MAJOR reason why the USA has had the better of Mexico in international matches the last couple years.

Take Donovan's goal in 2002. Should've been held.

Out of curiosity, coz i really don't know, how many of those south americans are goalkeepers? How many goalkeepers are there in MFL?

UNAM has an American football team. I think they play in some sort of college league.

Pointy ball is played during the fall there. Same with Monterrey's stadium.

I wouldn't call it far worse. But since MLS has now exported two keepers to the top level I think you've got pretty high quality. Seriously, how many MFL keepers could start in England? OTOH, Cannon couldn't get it done in France.
