OK, I don't think it's too early to start thinking about Germany in 2006. I have a few questions for those that have been to World Cups in the past, or those know it all's that have the answers as well.
    1. How long before the WC do you know when the first match the US will be in? (Days, Weeks, Months?)

    2. Once you know the set schedule for the first rounds, do you have to worry about getting tickets?

    3. WHEN the US moves up and on it's way to the final, how do you get tickets for those matches?

    4. How much time should I take for vacation? I get 30 days a year, plus 2 weeks R&R, or should I just quit my contract and worry about getting a job after the world cup?

    5. How many of you are or have decided not to worry about hotels and plan on camping, finding random women(or men) to stay with, sleeping in your own vomit in the streets of Deutschland or even taking the night trains to the venues?

A few things I can think of in anticipation of the cup, is that the U.S. will have a big turnout, between the traveling fans from both coasts (Portland to Frankfurt direct flights), the huge U.S. military population through out Germany and the many ex-pats that live in Europe, it's going to be a good showing for the U.S..

Well, I'll see many of you in 2006! I'm gonna keep slaving myself over here in the desert thinking about the cup.

    Firstly, is this a pisstake?

    Assuming it isn't.

    1. You should know in November 2005, when the games will be played and who will be in each group.

    2. I would stongly advise worrying about tickets before the schedule is drawn up, probably around May/June 2005.

    3. If you just want to see the US apply for a follow my team ticket, it gives you tickets to every game your chosen team plays.

    4. If you think you can get to the final you'll need a month and a bit.

    5. Sort this out at the same time as the tickets.

Anyone have any estimates of how much it may cost to stay the month?

    I'd go with $3000-$3500.
