As I was looking at the standings on MLSNet, I realized that the Revs are officially the third best team (or at least have the third best record) in the league, behind only Chicago and SJ. Considering the (justified, IMHO) gloom and doom before the 2nd annual end-of-season winning streak began, it's more than a little surprising. It does bode well for Nicol's future in New England, though.
The 9 game winless streak only gave us 4 points out of a possible 27. That shows that besides that streak, the revs were pretty tough to beat. Im not suprised to see the Revs near the top of the table, they have too good of a team to be bottomdwellers.
Does this mean we will get to play in the CONCACAF Tourney again? If I remember the MLS gets to send 4 teams: The MLS Cup Winner, Open Cup Winner, Shield Winner and the next best in the standings not taking one of the Cup Winner slots. I also wonder if the Fire are the Eastern Conf Champs or if that will be determined by the results of the Conf plauoffs which is the way I think it should be?
MLS is only sending 2 teams to the Concacaf Tourney Next season... Chicago is one (Supporters Shield, USOC) the winner of MLS Cup will be the 2nd, and if that is also Chicago, then the runner up of MLS Cup will be invited..
According to the tv broadcasters (I think it was Feldman), the Eastern Conference champ will be determined by the playoffs, not by the end-of-season standings.
