I think she can still do that attacking mid role, she has shown she can still pass well and has very good tactical awareness.

Right. Maybe she could come to Häcken (wishful thinking) and stem the tide:

Ok, I'll take the bait. Neither team deserved to win in my opinion. Sweden took the lead with a "shot" which barely had enough momentum to pass the goal line by a player not unfamiliar to this thread. Canada's goal was a penalty gifted by a Xhaka aspirant (Illestedt) who executed a totally unnecessary and clumsy challenge in the box. And then both teams competed to see who could be the worst penalty shooters in the game - a shoot-out I missed (deliberately) and still haven't seen (so this part is hearsay on my end).

I think that the sentiments expressed by a number of people in the stuff I've read about Sweden deserving to win have to do with their judgement of Sweden's overall performance in the tournament and not the debacle that was the final.

Classy, classic and beautiful reply. Hard to disagree with any of it.

I almost spit out my coffee at the Xhaka comment. I was texting with an Arsenal supporter yesterday and he was saying Xhaka has more reds at Anfield in the past three years than Liverpool.

An update, after the FIFA 2021 transfer report. IT seems like Hanna Bennison is actually the most expensive transfer to date, given that Nikita Parris cost 100,000€ and Damaris had a release clause of 112,100€, making the top 3 about 300k€ on average (1 Bennison, 2 Roord, and 3 Cook). I now estimate Hanna Bennison to cost as much as 400,000€, making her the most expensive player to date. Please note that Lyon bid 500,000€ for Aitana Bonmati last summer.

The 30 players with a 100k€+ transfer fee:
    01. Hanna Bennison from FC Rosengard to Everton for 400,000€ (08-2021)
    02. Pernille Harder from VfL Wolfsburg to Chelsea for 300,000€ (09-2020)
    03. Jill Roord from Arsenal to VfL Wolfsburg for 250,000€ (07-2021)
    04. Alex Morgan from Orlando Pride to San Diego Wave for 245,000€ (12-2021)
    05. Lauren James from Manchester United to Chelsea for 224,200€ (07-2021)
==. Milene Domingues from Fiammamonza to Rayo Vallecano for 224,200€ (09-2002)
    07. Crystal Dunn from OL Reign to Portland Thorns for 211,500€ (10-2020)
    08. Alana Cook from Paris Saint-Germain to OL Reign for 200,000€ (06-2021)
==. Sofie Svava from VfL Wolfsburg to Real Madrid for 200,000€ (01-2022)
    10. Kristie Mewis from San Diego Wave to NJ/NY Gotham for 178,000€ (12-2021)
    11. Lynn Williams from North Carolina Courage to San Diego Wave for 170,000€ (01-2022)
==. Abbie Dahlkemper from North Carolina Courage to San Diego Wave for 170,000€ (01-2022)
    13. Tabitha Chawinga from Kvarnsvedens IK to Jiangsu Suning for 154,000€ (01-2018)
    14. Kadidiatou Diani from FCF Juvisy to Paris Saint-Germain for 150,000€ (07-2017)
==. Kerolin from Madrid CFF to North Carolina Courage for 150,000€ (01-2022)
    16. Adrianna Franch from Portland Thorns to Kansas City Current for 128,000€ (08-2021)
    17. Barbra Banda from Logrono to Shanghai Shengli for 127,500€ (01-2020)
==. Temwa Chawinga from Kvarnsvedens IK to Wuhan Jiangda for 127,500€ (01-2020)
    19. Emily Sonnett from Orlando Pride to Washington Spirit for 118,600€ (12-2020)
    20. Crystal Dunn from North Carolina Courage to OL Reign for 118,500€ (10-2020)
    21. Kailen Sheridan from NJ/NY Gotham to San Diego Wave for 115,000€ (12-2021)
    22. Ellie Carpenter from Portland Thorns to Olympique Lyon for 114,400€ (07-2020)
    23. Damaris Egurrola from Everton to Olympique Lyon for 112,100€ (01-2021)
    24. Brianna Pinto from NJ/NY Gotham to North Carolina Courage for 110,000€ (12-2021)

Unless I'm wrong I think would make her the first Swede since Lotta Schlein to top a money list?

Is she the second coming and saviour?

I read Bennison was the most expensive transfer of last year, but didn't know it was all-time. She hasn't made that much of an impression at Everton (yet?). She did well as part of Gerhardsson's finishers at the Olympics (Gerhardsson is famous in Sweden for always talking about two lineups, the starting lineup and those that finish the match). And it looks like two other Swedes, Kullberg and Zigiotti-Olme didn't manage to turn the tide at Brighton either, but hey it's early days (or for Brighton lately, early daze).

    Starters and game-changers.

Such a strange year for the Albion. Win four and then lose six without scoring a goal. Even to London City.

The weird thing is that she wasn't even a regular at Rosengård when Everton signed her.

Yep, that's the conventional way of putting it. But if you listen to Gerhardsson, it's more like the two "lineups" are equivalent. The finishers aren't necessarily coming in to change anything, rather the opposite i.e. to continue something (namely the style of play he favors).

I think I phrased it all wrong. My bad. He talks about "startelvan" the starting lineup and "slutelvan" those that are on the pitch at the end of the match...

Sound really slick in Swedish. But who are we kidding anyway. Finisher, gamechangers... it's all a bit of a consolation prize for the players who don't start...

I suppose there are some similarities, but I think he emphasizes the high press more. Can't remember him ever mentioning Bielsa in any interview, but which modern-day coach isn't aware of that guy?

Yeah he's high press and simply run the opponent into the ground. Like the Japanese women in 2011. A couple of Leeds goals today were the result of West Ham players not tracking the trailing runners in the attack because they were gassed. Pretty exciting to watch because it's end to end and not a slow painful game of chess with each team committing little risk going forward.

I missed that one. Watched London City - Sunderland. Was disappointed that Arsenal-Reading was postponed. I imagine Eidevall was pretty miffed.

Yes!! BK Häckens keeper and Hedvig Lindahl's main competition for the national team starting spot, Jennifer Falk, is apparently staying put in Gothenburg. She was rumored to be on the way to the WSL (Man C ??). A WSL team had made a bid but it appears she's "safe" for this transfer period anyway.

    – Portland Thorns FC have acquired the rights to Japanese international Hina Sugita through a transfer with INAC Kobe Leonessa in exchange for allocation money, the club announced today. Following the transfer, the midfielder was signed to a three-year contract. She will join the team in Portland and be added to the roster pending the receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

“Hina is a player that the club has been pursuing for the last few years, and we are happy to welcome her to Portland,” said Thorns FC general manager Karina LeBlanc. “She is a young talent with international experience and a skillset that strengthens our roster.”

What Hina Sugita adds to Thorns FC's midfield

Still just 24, Sugita is entering the prime of a career that already features appearances at an Olympics and World Cup. One of the best midfielders in Japan’s WE League, Sugita has the potential to be one of the best in the world at her position.

“Hina is a playmaker with the ability to play across multiple positions,” Rhian Wilkinson, the Thorns’ head coach, explained. “She plays with bravery on the ball always looking for opportunities to be dangerous, she sees passes others do not see. Her on-field vision, creativity and ball control are traits that allow her to find a way out of tight positions to break open opposing teams.”

    8th December
Portland Thorns FC have acquired $100,000 in Allocation Money, (plus a 2022 NWSL Draft natural second round pick and roster immunity in the 2022 NWSL expansion draft) from Angel City FC in exchange for forwards Simone Charley and Tyler Lussi.

    17th December
Portland Thorns FC have acquired $50,000 in Allocation Money from San Diego Wave FC in exchange for the rights to defender Christen Westphal and forward Amirah Ali.

It's only speculation but 150k $ for Sugita would be right.
