Geny Catamo signed a new contract with us. The 19 year old has been with the senior team in pre-season and is also a hot prospect.

Sporting CP announced today that the Academy has been renamed from "Academia de Alcochete" to "Academia Cristiano Ronaldo"

    https://www.sporting.pt/pt/noticias/clube/comunicados/2020-09-21/academia-cristiano-ronaldo

16 year old Luis Gomes signed a professional contract last week with us, and this week there is already interest apparently from Manchester United and Atletico Madrid in the "new Luis Figo". Another one to keep an eye on!

Maisfutebol: 18yr old and Sporting U23 Bruno Tavares was released from the hospital following an incident over the weekend where he was shot. Sporting medical staff will oversee him.

Damn, i hope he's okay. He was released from the hospital so i suppose that's good news.

A lot of these academy kids come from poor neighborhoods, this stuff is bound to happen from time to time. Glad he's okay.

Reviving this thread a bit, after the sale of Nuno Mendes.

A Bola has a great cover page today showing 5 players that Amorim believes will be future Senior team players.

Diego Callai - this 17 year old GK is already being touted as a future star

Gonçalo Esteves - we all know about him, didn't renew with Porto and we picked him up, he's also said to be a wonderkid and even better than his older brother Tomas. At RB he could be a future star.

Flavio Nazinho - 18 yr old LB in the B team - could he be the next Nuno?

Dario Essugo - 16 year old midfielder, already had his debut for the Senior team and has been training with the first team ever since.

Tiago Ferreira - 19 yr old LW in the B team

Outside of this we also recently traded 20 yr old Rodrigo Fernandes, who played a few games but was never really an option, for 17 yr old Marco Cruz at Porto. Based on the Porto fans reaction, we got the better deal as Cruz is apparently another one to watch.

Disappointing game today in the uefa Youth League, losing 2-1 at home to Besiktas. We currently sit 3rd in the group.

Good win today against Dortmund in the UEFA Youth League, beating them 3-2. That moves us to 2nd in the group behind Ajax with 10 pts, with 1 game left vs. the Dutch. Goals by:

    Youssef Chermiti - 26'
    Miguel Menino - 56'
    Rodrigo Duarte Ribeiro - 81'

Scenes! Our youth league team came back from 2-0 down away at Ajax to beat them 3-2 and progress to the next stage of the Youth League! And they did it without a few of the main starlets who are with the senior team (Esteves, Nazinho, Essugo).

Crazy good result, anything but a win would have meant nothing.

Games like these help build great character, exactly what we need

Really hopeful for this kid. We have never really developed any top strikers.

Sadly not a 2 legged game (though it probably wouldn't make much difference). Defensively we were very poor in the CB positions, nearly all the goals came the same way, crossed in along the ground from the left, failed to be intercepted and finding their way to a Benfica player.

We have awful coaches at that level, and I don't see a lot of talent coming through, probably why we've been poaching talents from Porto and elsewhere

that’s nonsense, the talent is there and being given opportunities which is in stark contrast to benfica my club. Dario, Nazinho & Ribeiro have all been given gane time by Amorim. Not one of the Benfica kids have in that side have, so I ask you what’s the aim, win a meaningless kids tournament or produce players for the first team.

In that regard yes, but imagine Amorim wasn't there to give those 2-3 prospects a chance? We lost that game by 4 and could have been 8. Without those 2-3 prospects + the kids we poached from Porto, we'd have nothing coming up.

There's also a difference between them getting some break through minutes, and them developing in their own world.

    Agreed
Not everyone is going to be a Quaresma/Simao/Ronaldo who gets a call up and demands a squad place.

Our B team is 8th in Liga 3. Closer to the bottom than the top. Braga B is in a promotion spot, and our rivals B teams play in Liga 2 which is much more competitive.

Our U23 Team is 5th out of 7th place, Braga and Benfica are in 1st in their respective groups.

The club needs to look at this and do better.

But that’s the point isn’t it, Amorim gives the kids a chance so Benficas current dominance at under age level is irrelevant unless those kids are getting a chance. Look at what Braga is doing, they’re setting themselves up for long term success both on the pitch and off it with their current philosophy, Guimaraes too.

The results at the B team level, u23 or u19 for me is not the aim of those teams, it’s all about firstly developing individuals for the first team, secondly producing professionals who may not be good enough for sporting but succeed elsewhere therefore showing clubs around the world that when your buy a player from your club you can buy with confidence.

I think your in a good spot personally considering the events of the past few seasons.

A word on our youth teams, who have been doing well and crowned champions of their division. In particular there are a couple of highlights. Gabriel Silva is 15 years old and has scored 45 goals this season in 30 games. One to watch closely.
