How is this "Reputation" stuff supposed to work? It looks like we can give Reputation points to deserving members -- can we also "remove" points from some of the more irritating users as well?
You can hand out reputation by clicking on the scales-of-justice icon in the upper right corner of each post. I'm not sure how this thing quite works, but it appears we all start out "off the scale", then work our way up to "on a distinguished road", etc. Place your cursor over the green box next to post count to find someones current reputation
you have the gist. your reputation determines how much rep you can give away, as does your seniority and a few other things. this will, over time, help us all to filter the "noise"
this could be splitting hairs but I'm not sure "approve/not approve" is the right term to use when judging someone's post but I'm not sure what would be better.
We're still figuring out exactly how we will implement and use reputations. For now the functionality exists. I'm sure we'll come up with something interesting!
It's in the lower-righthand corner of each post now. Look for the icon akin to the "scales of justice".
So what comes after "on a distinguished road"? And is it possible for someone to be "on the wrong path" with enough disapproval votes?
How many approval votes before you are on a distinguished road? Is it possible to see the comments that people leave about your posts? I'm on the good road but don't know how I got there.
New users default to 0. Everyone who was in place before the upgrade got 10. 10 is on the road. 0 is too soon to tell. How much rep you can get and give is determined by your rep, time since you joined, number of posts, user ranking, and other things. I, for instance, give 25 rep points. Base users, once they are allowed to give rep points, can give 1 point. That number increases based on the factors i mentioned.
I can see them in my User Control Panel. Someone called me the "smart-assiest poster on BigSoccer." I can live with that.
Maybe you can include it as part of the IGNORE feature. Instead of having to list people we want to ignore one by one -- e.g. Superdave, Ben Reilly, etc -- we can choose to automatically IGNORE members who've been given a boatload of disapproval votes.
So am I supposed to be able to give out as many points as I have? And how long should it take to come through? I'm at my limit for giving out points, but I haven't used nearly as many as I currently have. Like less than one seventh of the number that I have. I'd also like to second VW about the Ignore list thing. Especially if it comes to Premium Members. A troll or sock with 30 bucks is still a troll or a sock.
Huss, I really think the "reputation" ranking thing is a bad idea. Subjective analysis and grading of posts by just ANYONE (especially those who simply wish to cause trouble) can become a serious problem.
I have seen another forum with this feature, but then it was abolished. People with highest reputation aren't always the most respected poster. It's just one form of popularity contest.
