He usually plays with a FW and not Osako in Europe...

I hope there's a friendly lined up post-WCQ for Moriyasu to get found out and fired before FWC (If Japan make it...).

We get the 3 points, but I still don't know with whom I'm more disgruntled these days between Hajime Moriyasu and Ole Solskjaer as the worse idiot full of stupid favoritism towards certain individuals.

    Player A
    - Top scorer in J1. Just scored a hat trick for his club. Only striker to score a goal at the Olympics.

    Player B
    - First choice striker at his club. Scoring goals for fun in Scotland and Europa League against even better opposition than what he’d face in Asia.

    Player C
    - Just returned from injury. Club manager stating the guy is not back to 100%. Only scored one goal in the J-League. Looking useless for the past few years.

Which guy does ********ing Moriyasu pick.

    - Not much to worry about. I’m still not convinced he’s the best Japanese GK though.

    Maya Yoshida
    - Solid performance. Not much of a contest in the air against Vietnamese strikers. Both him and Tomiyasu could offer something more at set pieces, we don’t look dangerous at all.

    Takehiro Tomiyasu
    - Solid performance as always.

    Yuto Nagatomo
    - Arrogant grandpa needs to be flown back to Japan ASAP and sent to a nursing home. Keeps chewing gum during the game like he’s an untouchable veteran. Gives us nothing in attack.

    Miki Yamane
    - Solid performance. Reliable as you would expect from someone at Kawasaki Frontale.

    Ao Tanaka
    - Good chemistry with Morita and Endo in the midfield. Nothing much he could do about the ridiculous VAR call.

    Wataru Endo
    - Solid performance. I wish Moriyasu substituted him, he looks exhausted.

    Hidemasa Morita
    - Looked good going forward. Hot-headed at times.

    Junya Ito
    - MVP. Very dangerous whenever he found space. Second goal was wonderful. His crossing could improve but as someone else said Osako is the striker…

    Takumi Minamino
    - Only playing because he’s signed for Liverpool. He can’t even shoot on target these days.

    Yuya Osako
    - Get rid of him. He cannot score. He could rip off both ACLs and Moriyasu would start him in WCQ.

Kyogo Furuhashi and Yuta Nakayama looked more dangerous in 15 minutes than Osako and Nagatomo.

Gaku Shibasaki looked okay. Two good shooting opportunities. Looked focused and really wanting to redeem himself after the KSA game.

The only reason Ito doesn't have more assists count in national team is his teammate is Osako.

Even if we all remaining qualifying games Moriyasu has to go. This is not the way a team targeting quarters at WC should be developing

I dont understand why the FBs and wingers are not getting to the byline to cross. All these 45 degree balls are ineffective especially with Osako and lack of aerial presence at FW. Look at Sth America and Europe, the top teams breakdown "parking the bus" with getting to the byline and have attackers running in late into the box. Seems like a Moriyasu specific guideline

Japanese players have big issue with set pieces both defending and attacking. There is just no one attacking the ball. Even Vietnam is doing this better than us. J League and JFA must work to improve this. This will always be an achilles heel

Next game is gonna be crucial and could decide the fate of JNT, either direct tickets to Qatar 2022 or having to go through arduous playoffs.
    Let's hope for the best.

And since Oman was held to a draw by China, I expect them to go all out in Japan's match. So excited yet so worried for the upcoming match.

Can anyone please tell me is there a genuine tactical reason Moriyasu Japan loves to play these cute short passes between 2-3 players close to the sideline?

Whenever we get forward instead of crossing the ball or doing anything which would worry the opposition we just….. take the ball to the sideline and pass it around inside a tight space until we lose the ball. This happened 8-10 times last night.

Nakayama was bit more direct playing long balls to Asano.

just to add to that, Daisuke Matsui was one of the commentators on the DAZN broadcast, and he mentioned that Japan was putting in too many low balls, and not making use of their rare height advantage.

Just shows how stupid and gutless Moriyasu is. Not even trying to change his game plan or tactics.

This is where Onaiwu Ado would've been valuable. Even pushing up Ko Itakura forward against their defensive line.

Thats classic moriyasu, even back to sanfreece days. His teams luv these ineffective triangles that goes nowhere on sides (recall Shimizu, Kashiwa etc.)

Issue is modern football you must create genuine threat, otherwise the opposition will get confidence to come at you and losing balls on transition is the most dangerous situation. Again, reinforces that Moriyasu is way outdated compared to global standards and I now worry he will be just as bad as Takakura for Nadeshiko in holding back Japan's development.

Surely it's a matter of time now. Ex-JNT players Tulio Tanaka, Daisuke Matsui, Shoji Jo have been the biggest names publicly calling Moriyasu out. Not to mention in the media Sergio Echigo, Kunishige Kamamoto and Nobutoshi Kaneda being disgruntled with the recent games.

It's inevitable especially with the way JNT has been playing so far. Even if Japan manages to qualify directly to the WC, I hope we'd see drastic changes as I don't think current Japan would stand a chance playing against the top teams in that tournament.

Tulio Tanaka even called for the return of former manager Takeshi Okada, if my poor Japanese reading skills serve me right.

The issue of Japan is that playing in the qualifiers requires a different style than on the World Cup stage itself. Moriyasu is inflexible, and probably thought qualification was a formality, whereupon he'd employ defensive tactics qagainst teams of better standing.

Was a highly unexciting game. With my bad stream even more so, hard to figure out anything at times. Might have to give in and give my money to DAZN sooner or later, but not during this qualification cycle.

Positive from the game: Yamane starting. Not because I think he's better than Sakai or Muroya, but because Moriyasu needs to give his players a chance to play. With Yamane he did, good. Not like with Itakura. He's been calling him up regularly for what seems forever now, but has he got to play with the first choices even once? Yeah, Tomiyasu-Yoshida seem fix, but what happens when one is injured? Mix it up a bit. Ok, 1 at a time, not Yamane and Itakura in the same game. Anyway, Yamane got his chance and played ok. Like Nagatomo on the left started off well, then kind of disappeared a bit after Japan was ahead.

The triangles on the sideline? Part of the problem is that Moriyasu clearly likes speedy players. Speed over technique, speed over dribbling. See Asano, the serial stumbler who can run fast. Ito the dribbler really isn't that impressive dribbling unless it involves again speed. So what are they going to do if they are blocked on the sideline? Can't dribble past, so it's the back pass and then the triangles. With Minamino on the left and Ito on the right that's what happens. Yes, Moriyasu seems to prepare for the WC, when with more space, with Japan not having as much possession something like what seems to be the plan can work. And worked even vs Vietnam, the 2 goals (ok 1, with my stream the second seemed perfectly allright too, but...) as well were based on speed. Can work vs stronger teams of course. Although MInamino on the left will never IMO. And Ito on the right, I rather have a slower guy with more precision in his crosses. It's been the story of his NT career, he needs an inordinate amount of crosses to get one right.

And now according to some that's Osako's fault somehow? He has to go to wherever Ito will possibly cross? The Osako hate here is quite a bit over the top. I wouldn't have started Osako either, not vs Vietnam and not vs Oman. Furuhashi vs Vietnam and Minamino vs Oman. See how they do. But Osako has his place in the team. He's never been a scorer, won't develop into one for the WC, what he excels at is as pivot. The Japanese goal really showed both his and Ito's strength. Osako gets the ball, control, lays it off to Minamino who is free to go on a run. Ito in the middle overtakes the Vietnamese guy with his speed and then is in an ideal position to put it in. Osako did his job to perfection there. Is it unique? No, others could have done that too, but Osako does it regularly and well, he has excellent awareness of where his teammates are and who to pass too. But the same with Ito. Was it unique? No, but he is fast, Asano of course would have been there too and missed the goal by a tiny 8 meters... but others can do what Ito did there too. But Ito is faster than many, that was necessary there. Good job. Now if Osako would score and Ito regularly cross decently I'd be happy, but both are unlikely to happen anytime soon. In the meantime Osako is still a decent player, just not a scorer. And games like vs Vietnam with the few usable balls he got... would have been a hard job for any guy playing in his position.

Again,. the problem is the lack of creativity. Minamino on the left is a waste of his talent and a waste of the position. He's a scorer, not a creator, play him in the middle, not on the side. Either in his old position in the NT, which was basically offensive midfielder in name, second striker in fact. Or if Moriyasu keeps the new Morita-Endo-Tanaka setup, then as first striker. IMO he should keep using that (but not exclusively, the pre Australia system had its advantags too). It isn't working 100% yet, Tanaka despite his goal vs Australia clearly isn't fully comfortable with the position yet.
Then Ito on the right, an upgrade over Doan who has neither speed nor anything else (shooting, ok, he shoots quite well) but whenever Kubo is fit again I'm all for the unfulfilled wonderkid getting the starting position. On the left, playing Nagatomo far up as it was against Australia and the start vs Vietnam works, he's the biggest danger on the sides like that. The obvious guy for the left would be Mitoma of course... but how well he plays for the NT remains to be seen of course. But try him vs Oman. I would probably have tried him vs Vietnam first. Minamino on the bench or as lone forward. With the abolition of the high ball from the back, only Yoshida seems allowed to do that (and does it well, but mostly to the wings) no need for somebody with special heading capabilities anyway.

If I managed Japan, and played fast wingers, I'd simply tell them to charge at opposition players, no matter what. Low centre of gravity can help squeeeze past fullbacks. When the ball is not in the opposition's half, it's not being put to good use.

We all know Osako is good at holding the ball up etc etc etc.

But the year is 2021 Why is the JNT still 100% dependent on playing Osako and therefore a completely non-existent goal threat?

This is the dream come true for an opposition. He’s not going to score. Just shut him down 2:1 defenders and job done for the opposition. Nothing in the tactics of Moriyasu Japan to worry the opposition.

Not to mention he’s been terribly average at Kobe and just returning from injury. 1 goal in 5 WCQ matches…

AND there are other strikers in better form in the last 1-2 years who deserve more than just 15 minutes cameo off the bench.

Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Onaiwu Ado, Yuma Suzuki. Even Yoshinori Muto has performed better at Kobe.

With KSA's victory today, I guess 1st place is almost theirs and both Japan and Australia would have to duke it out for 2nd place. Here's hoping JNT wouldn't drop any points in the remaining matches.
