Birmingham City owner Carsen Yeung is ready to push through a deal for Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko.

The Mirror says Hong Kong tycoon Yeung remains anxious to bring in a well-known star up front to help market the club in the Far East.

Manager Alex McLeish still has reservations as he is wary of upsetting the club’s dressing room spirit by shelling out bumper wages.

But he is a fan of Pavlyuchenko, 28, who is for sale at around £10million.

The Russian scored in Spurs’ FA Cup draw with Leeds but is desperate to leave White Hart Lane.

“We need to get a striker, no doubt about it,” said McLeish, whose side are unbeaten in 15 matches.

“We need a striker to help these guys to achieve more than they have done already.”
