On Nov. 9th approximately 20 members of Real Salt Lake’s first official supporter’s club, the Loyalists, met with Trey Fitz-Gerald, the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications for RSL. He discussed upcoming events and decisions about the team and answered Loyalists’ questions for about 45 minutes. Here is a summary of what he discussed. For the complete article, please go to www.TheLoyalists.com where the article will be available soon.

Fitz-Gerald reiterated that the club is working on a relationship with Real Madrid. He added that Dave Checketts has been conducting close discussions with Madrid since the Oct. 9th event, working more on the details. However, he refused to go into detail, stating that he would prefer to defer to Dave Checketts on that subject.

He did say that Salt Lake City fans will hopefully see Real Madrid in town within the next few years. One possibility might be to see them in town around the time the new stadium is opened. He also stated that some possibilities for the relationship might include spring training in Madrid and some connections for player development.

As long as the word "possibility" is flowing all over that article of a "possible" Real Madrid connection/relationship, I will continue to acknowledge that RSL lied to everyone outside their inner circle, including lying to their fans, just so they can cover their assets for naming this team "Re-al Salt Lake". My guess is they'll wait until the team starts playing next season before they come out and say "you know what, sorry but there is no serious relationship", and by then the fans won't even care or hold them accountable because they'll be blinded by the inaugural season.

I sincerely hope Salt Lake fans call this team Royale Salt Lake (as in Roy-AL, not Royal). It sounds much much better, and its in English!

I'm going to have to agree with 'the cup', and here's why...

You don't say how RSL lied. Please enlighten us.

We have a relationship with Real Madrid, it's not "possible", it's a fact. Dave Checketts has already made several trips tp Madrid, and RSL will be training at the Real Madrid training camp in February/March.

Royale is French, not English. Thanks for playing.

I too, will start believing when I see The Galacticos going Australia - American Samoa on us in Rice Eccles or a couple of RSL youngsters playing for Castilla (Castilla used to be Real Madrid's affiliate. Maybe they still are. I am too lazy to check)

But cynics (like me) have to remember the other end of this equation.....

Dave Checketts still has lots of contacts in the NBA and Real Madrid has a basketball team. Maybe the deal will go something like this: some RSL kids will get to play for a Real Madrid reserve team and some Real Madrid basketball players will play in that "D League" or maybe their team will play in an NBA summer league. Or something like that.

The Jazz can trade Raul Lopez to Ajax for John O'Brien and an orthepedic surgeon to be named later.

At this point, I'd expect MiamiAce to lash himself 40 times.

Kudos to you guys if you can actually manage to draw Real Madrid to our tiny corner of the world.
