Hey im not sure if this has been brought up before but im sure it has...I just wanted to get everyones opinions on if you would like to see MLS at least have a chance to qualify for the Copa Libertadores? I see the mexican teams fit in quite well, and im pretty sure MLS can compete with many of these south american teams. I would really enjoy it, not to mention the tournament usually runs right in the middle of MLS season, is there any possibility of this ever happening?
Are you this guy? https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=99680&highlight=MLS+Libertadores No? Well that thread should help you on your way nevertheless.
This has been discussed to DEATH. The main points to know. Mexico is in The Copa Libertadores because of their VERY EXCLUSIVE TV CONTRACT!!!! It earns mucho $$$$$$ for Comebol and Mexico... It has helped the Mexicans that their soccer at the club level has improved and give EVERY team in the copa a run for their money, no pun intended..... MLS, like has been mentioned before don't have the econmoics and stadium leases, in most cities except LA, and COLUMBUS, to schedual the games.. Hence it becomes VERY difficult... Now level of play and blah blah is a discussion for another day... The tornament has been reshaped to now include mexican teams and teams from Venezuela, without that annoying playoff format... So I don't think Comebol will want to reshape the tornament for about let's say on a good day 5 years and on a bad day 10. What can MLS do to get in good with comebol, and make a good case to get into copa Libertadores????? 1. WIN the CONCACAF CHAMPIONS CUP ALOT! and do what the mexicans did, yell, bitch, scream, send e-mails, saying "see we're winners and wanna take on the best!" Because CONACAF WILL NOT DO IT UNLESS JOE PUBLIC were to some how, and hopefully NEVER, win the title.. 2. Try and get into LA COPA SUR AMERICANA. It's a knockout round tornament. eaiser on the air miles, and has been recived by HUGE FAN FAIR from Latin America, the tornament in it's 3 years has become a MUST WIN for the big guns, Brazil and Argentine teams... And If MLS made a case to Comebol, I'd say they have an 80 % chance to get in... 3- SSS.. a no brainer...
mls in la Copa Libertadores is a good 20 years in the future. CONMEBOL is NOT CONCACAF they take all their cups SERIOUS and presentation is also a big thing with them... CONMEBOL would not play on a field with NFL Lines all over...or fake grass.. the sad fact is that MLS it self has not pushed the issue because they dont have any say in these NFL Stadiums and CONMEBOL WILL NOT EVER RESCHEDUAL a game because the RFK had a expo game schedual for that day. You cant play you lose 3 pts no questions asked. so why bother to have MLS....when each team have their own stadiums then you can talk about it... Also US Soccer has walked away from the wonderful relationship Alan Rothenberg help establish.. US Soccer has been invited time and time again to copa america and time and time again US Soccer has said no... US Soccer should have copa america as a more important event than any Concacrap Gold cup. Mexico FA always says YES to any invitation from CONMEBOL.. MLS in Libertadores is years away but if this league continues to build stadiums then and only then can it happen.....
MLS team when WANTING to fair well in the Concacaf cup... I think MLS should follow my example and win it as much as possible and get into la Copa Sur Americana....
Good thing Agoos' whining ass does not have to play this worthless cup, now that the winner can play for up to 15 million dollars in Tokyo....
Once Caldas and Porto will play the final intercontental cup and then next year the stupid world club cup starts...
