Michael Reddy scored two (one of them a 25-yarder) and methinks set up the other as Sunderland won 3-1 yesterday.......then Thomas Butler crossed for Kevin Phillips' winner as they won 1-0 today. All good on the Sunderland front.

You should not wish injuries on players ever but perhaps Connolly's injury will force shortsighted Mick to select Clinton ahead of him as the third choice striker......

I suspect that Carr will take a few months before he gets anywhere near past form.....I am most looking forward to the selection defensive headache.....I dont see how he could leave Finnan or Carr on the bench if both fit......

Possibly cruel, but I have to say I see nothing even remotely bad in Connolly being injured.
I'm sure its tough for the lad himself, but from an Ireland perpsective, the further away that waster is from the team, the better.

If he has any sense he'll stick Finnan left back, he can play there for two reasons.

    1) He is a proven perfect two footed player, see McAteers goal verus Holland, Robbie Keanes versus Russia and a few for Fulham have been set up by the left boot of Steve Finnan, he loves to do his trick where he spins around and hits perfect crosses with his oppisate boot or use the one he'd normally use, he'd fit in perfect on that account.

    2) He's the most versitile member of our squad, he, at one point in his career he was a left winger, if he can play left wing combined with number one, he can slot in at left back, let's not forget how quickly he went from right wing to right back.

This excites the hell out of me, suddenly we have two of the best full backs in Europe playing for us (Carr, voted the best right sided player in Europe, 2001, and Finnan voted the best right back in the premiership, 2002) Ian Harte is nowhere to be seen and we have the defencive solidity down the left side to play Duff in his natural position, so in one big swoop we sure up defence amazingly and bolster the attack in huge value too.

BTW, Clinton shouldn't move up to third choice striker, he should be second beside Keane and Duff put on the left.

I knew there would be that reaction to DC, but we have so few forwards with experience, its better not to have any ruled out for too long, in case another one or two go down at the wrong moment...

Ireland and centre-forwards - we never, ever have enough of them...

If the Danish friendly last season was a guide, I would love to see that too. The Danes were terrible, but that's as exciting as I have seen Ireland play in years.

Its certainly a formation I would like to see experimented with again, but Mick seems to like his system as it is.

The Denmark friendly was our best preformance in donkeys, Clinton and Keane linked up brillianty, both scoring and making monkeys of their defence, Duff tore them apart on the left and set up a goal and we destroyed them

I liked the look of the side that finished against the Nigerians .

Clinton and Keane up front with Reid and Morrison linking up (neat footwork by both ) for Reid to drive into the top of the net ...absolute class.

I too am of the opinion that we should put Finnan on the Left with Carr on the right and most importantly Duff on the left of midfield in an attacking role ....providing the boys up front with some of those wonderful crosses.

    The future looks green.

Don't forget , we still have to have a good look at Healy in midfield.

That was a super goal, Clintons importance in that goal cannot be under estimated imo and that's what I'd go for. Mick rates Healy alot and he will play at least 45 if not the full 90 against Finland, can't see him starting against Russia as Mick isn't one to do something like that but he'll get subbed on and if he can make an impact similar to Holland when he came on against Portugal after being grafted in the same way, we're in for a treat.
