Primary contender for the center forward position is Ahn. I couldnt decide on who's better. Ahn surely has better finishing, but i like the way kim uses his techniques. (although Ahn has better skills, he does it for no reason, but kim actually utilizes his skills). Plus Kim is lot stronger and probably faster. The biggest concern is, can Kim score goals. he's THE reason why Hiddink was almost kicked out from NT during the gold cup.
Future The key reasons is, we have to be aiming for 2006. Kim Do-hoon will certainly be too old then and he's not even that top quality of a striker. Yes he's good player in the league, but the league and international matches have very different demands. Choi Yong-soo for example! We have to look for a replacement. If he had the quality of Hwang Sun-hong, then I'd say maybe keep him in there for his experience and he could teach the youngsters a thing or two. I don't think he's the kind of player. I actually met him in real life and he's a good man, but in the national team's striker position, we need a guy who can score goals. Ahn Jung-hwan is the man for this I think. But we also have to find some backups. We have many other options: Seol Ki-hyun, Lee Chun-soo, Cha Doo-ri (although his improvement is slower than most of us wanted), Choi SUng-guk and Jung Jo-guk. Coelho's player choices have really had me wondering what this guy is thinking!
Kim Do-Hoon is a good striker, no mistake about that... he's lighting it up in K-League currently, and he also did well in his spell in J-League if I remember correctly. He's got a good shot, he's a threat in the air, and he's got experience. To me he is pretty much a more versatile, less powerful (more of finesse) version of Choi Yong-Soo. Unfortunately he also suffers from that Choi Yong-Soo syndrome... a good club player, but suddenly loses confidence and consistancy in a big international level affair. He did absolutely nothing at all in World cup 98, and did not impress or make a mark in international friendlies, either (well except for that goal we all remember him for... the winning goal vs Brazil in a friendly). He actually did pretty well right before Hiddink dropped him last year though (goal vs Canada then goal vs Uruguay), Hiddink probably dropped him back then because we already had couple veteran strikers who were better than him (Hwang, Choi) and wanted some young strikers like Cha in the WC squad instead. Right now I'd say he's one of our two most experienced strikers in Korea (the other being Choi), and I guess that merits him being in the Asian Cup qualifying squad, bringing leadership and such to the team. It doesn't hurt that he's on a tear in K-League right now, either. However, he's getting up there in age (about 33-34 years old right now), so I don't see him making the final asian cup squad. There are simply too many younger guys that can fill his spot and do it better by the time of Asian Cup finals (Seol, Ahn, Choi, Lee CS, Cho JJ, etc...). As for him scoring goals, against likes of Vietnam and Nepal, he has no excuse but to be scoring goals
