I just saw a promo for the Women's WC on Galavision and next to everybody's favorite narrator (Pablo Ramirez) was Jorge Ramos. This is incredible news. News that was is three years late in coming.

Here,s hoping once the WWC is over Galavision keeps Pablo and they reunite Jorge and Ricardo over on Univison and Telefutura.

That would make weekends seem right once again!

Don't be afraid to be happy!

    No chance.

Jorge Ramos the futbol announcer is Uruguayan.
    He is NOT Mexican.

(Jorge Ramos the futbol announcer is not to be confused with Noticiero Univision anchor Jorge Ramos, who is Mexican.)

Univision Sports wants a Mexican as the lead PxP
voice for Futbol Liga Mexicana and World Cup.

Note that Mayorga was demoted to "B" team during
the World Cup in favor of former Chivas D. T. Jesus Bracamontes because Univision Sports wanted an all-Mexican "A" team.

I'm Mexican, so don't call me biased.

Bracamontes is a good an analyst as I am a physicist. There is no comparison with Mayorga.

Univision people now realized they made a mistake in substituting Mayorga.

"La Torre de Jalisco" is improving somewhat, but still his "Mexican inflection" leaves a sour taste, sometimes.

Mayorga and Jorge Ramos make a clever, brilliant, and one too many times funny pair...

Bring them on, Univision. You don't have to "Mexicanize" the airwaves to please your audience. And this is an objective Mexican making a formal plea...

Don't think that will be held against him

When it comes to soccer everyone knows which Jorge Ramos we're talking about. I don't think being Uruguayan would keep Jorge Ramos from getting the main narrator job? Maybe for a time Univision thought it a good idea to have all Mexican team, but after that whole Braca and Ramirez fiasco phase they realized that wasn't the way to go (hence the addition of Mayora). To recant a little bit of history, the reason they got rid of Cantor wasn't because the network wanted an all Mexican team. Reason #1 was his demand for a salary raise and Reason #2 was he wanted to narrate in English Women's Olympic Sccer over at NBC for one summer which Univision didn't like for some reason. Ramirez sort of became top dog by default. I think the audience for the most part can put aside nationalities and enjoy the narration if they like it regardless. Cantor is still liked by people which is why he's doing his thing at Telemundo.
Jorge Ramos has been doing Mexican league coverage on TV and radio since 95. Yeah there's people who have a problem with his nationality, but if it were a large contigency he wouldn't still be doing it.

Can you source this, I think it's speculation. And sure, I'd also speculate that all else being equal they would prefer a Mexican.

If they can't hire one who is nearly as capable as Ramos, I can't imagine it would be an absolute unstated requirement, and you can bet it is not a written policy.

I doubt if high quality announcers like Emilio Anloso at Azteca are lining up to relocate to Miami.

Apart from some English speakers in other sports, Ramos is the #1 narrator in the USA in my book. Maybe just wishful thinking, but it would be great were he to get back on TV presenting more compelling futbol than WWC.

(Peter Jennings is a Canadian who never obtained American citizenship.)

    Hear, hear!

I've missed this pair a lot: they make the game entertaining. Even Cantor and Longo at their hilarious best weren't talking about the game, they were busy picking on the ref.

Being Mexican, shmexican, whatever doesn't matter and shouldn't matter. And this is the opinion of another Mexicano... well, Mexicano-Americano ;-)

Just as in sports, it's how you do your job that matters, period!

Though our Burns have us heartbroken right now, it's refreshing to know we are two unbiased, objective, and unprejudiced soccer fans.

Besides, every time we visit Austin we can see why is the fourth most liveable city in the U.S.

    Congratulations...

I liked Jorge's work ... "pelota por la derecha ... oh, shut your mouth please you are driving me crazy ... le pega, GOOOOOL de Suecia! GOOOOOOOOL!"

Funniest goal call ever as he was deriding the PTHs in the stands!

They're the best. Maybe once Televisa buys into MLS and puts the league back on the Univision nets, they'll get Ramos and Mayorga to work those games. :D

ANd you favorite team is the USA?? wierd

Bracamontes is a good an analyst as I am a physicist. There is no comparison with Mayorga.

Mayorga is full of it. He sucks dude. That guy contradicts himself time and time again.

"La Torre de Jalisco" is improving somewhat, but still his "Mexican inflection" leaves a sour taste, sometimes.

At last we agree on soemthing. Jalisco is improving, but he needs to host a sports news show not do PxP. He knows his history (Mexican Football, European Football, South American Football), rules, etc.. but its his personality i question

Bring them on, Univision. You don't have to "Mexicanize" the airwaves to please your audience. And this is an objective Mexican making a formal plea...

dont please your audience?? Gee thats a new concept in business for me

For years, South Americans never even turned thier heads towards Mexican football. But once Mexican investors laid the foundation for Spanish Television in the US, and Americans as well as other latins saw the benefits of it, they started to take an interest. They are mercs.. in it for the money. No passion what so ever when commentating the MFL. Its getting to the point where i turn downt he volume and if i catch a web feed of the game.. i'll listen to it while watching the game.. even if its delayed a couple seconds

I am not saying they dont know the rules nor the game, but as a commentator, you also have to be aware of the history of the league and the players you commentate on. So when Mayorga doesnt even know anything prior to 97 and spends half the time telling his "audience" who he likes or doesnt like it kind of gets old.

yelling and being able to scream "GOOOOL" for 5 minutes doesnt convince either.

The spanish commentating in the US sucks. Watch a game live with direct feed from its country, and the commentators dont worry about pleasing the central americans, or the mexicans, or the south americans.. or preaching that crap about fraternal hispanic bonds.. CMON.. be informed of the league you pertain to (or commentate), call the game as you see it, and if you piss off a couple people.. so be it.... is that too much to ask??

On the WWC games Ramos has been excelent and makes the alright to watch. Mayorga is only as good as his partner. If the narrator goes into 'moron-land' Mayorga is right there in the passenger seat, but if the narrator knows his stuff like Ramos then Mayorga shines just the same.

Thank god. The guy is the worst anaylyst in any languague. He is even worse than the Argentinean guy who does the EPL for Fox Sports and starts singin every time they score.

To me, the Cantor- Longo duo was the best around. They knew their stuff and Cantor would call great games. I didb´t see the Ramos-Mayorga duo but anything with Mayorga present day would suck.

Mayorga joined Ramos for the Sunday Women's match between Sweden and Canada, sweet memories.

Jorge is also scheduled to call Chivas vs Pumas this coming Saturday on Telefutra and some of the U20 matches.

I hopes it's a sign of a major role in the future.

(I do believe Pablo has slowly gotten a little better over time, and in fact see him and Ricardo as having finally settled into a decent 'comfort zone', surely as compared to Ty Keogh and anybody)
