Are they more like Liverpool or Man Utd?

    Is PSV, the Manchester United?

Just trying to get a feel for the league.

Thanks for your thoughts and time.

    Not Really

Ajax isnt the Man U because they arent totally dominant like man u is. Yes, they have won more titles than anyone else but man u won 9 in 11 years, which is unlike this situation. PSV is a good team, but dont have the titles Ajax has. The big three are Ajax, Feyenoord, and PSV.

actually... ajax is TWICE as dominant as manU historically - ya know they did play football before 1992... and don't make me blast you

truth is catfish, the manU of the eredivisie comparison doesnt work because the leagues are so different... besides, AJAX are among the top 5 teams in european history and manU are definitely NOT

As Bluedaddy mentioned, Ajax has won more international and national titles. PSV are the team that has been nationally dominant for the past 20 years. Feyenoord is a team which has a grand history, but lacks the financial power of the other two, despite having the best and biggest stadium in Holland which is always well packed. Where the money goes, I don't know.

Ajax is the team from the capital, the biggest and most famous city of the Netherlands. Its supporters call themselves Joden (Jews)

PSV is the team from the homecity of Philips Electronics and originally the companyteam, which through the years got filled with players not working in the Philips factories, attracted by the Philips money. Eindhoven is located outside of Holland, near Belgium and its supporters call themselves "boeren" (farmers, peasants).

Feyenoord is the team from the biggest port and its based in the part of the city where most of the harbour activity takes place.

    So a close analogy would be;

MU and PSV, both domestically dominant, both from a region that is being looked down at by the nation's dominant region (southern England-northern England, Holland-outside of Holland, especially the southern Netherlands where they speak with a "Belgianlike accent")

Ajax-Arsenal (both from the capital and domestically less succesfull than PSV and MU.)

Feyenoord-Liverpool, both from cities with a big port, both having a grand history, but the least succesful of the big teams.

Hopefully in a few years, ADO will be competing for the championship title. It's from the 3rd biggest city of Holland, the beautiful city behind the dunes. Unfortunately ADO hasn't been able to attract a rich sugardaddy like the other big teams, despite the fact that there is a lot of money based in the city. Aegon and Shell have their HQs in The Hague, the Dutch monarch lives in The Hague, perhaps Bea could sponsor ADO to boost the popularity of the Dutch monarchy, considering all the crap that the Royal Family are now involved in... :)

he gives some nic info, but these are TERRIBLE comparisons - to wit:

1-AJAX has 5 of the last 10 dutch titles and 8 in the last 20 years, so how have PSV (10 titles since '83) dominated?

2-arsenal has done nothing in europe, they wish they were like AJAX

3-liverpool has 12 english titles and has won 4 champions' leagues and 3 uefa cups since '73, easily more than manU and arsenal put together

The media loves Ajax, and all the rest of the league and country either love Ajax or hate them - thus they are Man United of Holland, but just much cooler.

Also Ajax and Man U develop youth players.

    Thanks for the information.

What to do, what to do? Do A support one of the big 3 and have people to chat with about them or B pick some club and struggle to EVEN see their matches? Also if I pick Ajax then liking Bayern or Real Madrid would make me look like the BIGGEST Gloryhunter that EVER lived!!!! ARGH!!! Damn all these great clubs and their rich traditions and all of you fantastic, passionate fans....LOL.

You guys rock. Dutch fans and the Dutch, in general, are some of THE nicest people I have ever met. Considering I never met anyone Dutch in my entire life until 2 yrs ago. My neighbor, my boss+his whole family, and my small group leader are all Dutch and have been wonderful and have made a huge positive impact on my life...

    So ends the lesson.

and dear lord, don't be a real supporter!!!! in spain, you should pick either barcelona (otherwise known as AJAX west or brazil europe lol), real betis, athletic bilbao or deportivo

I'm going to wait until the end of this season, probably to decide. I definately want to see Feyernoord and Ajax play. I have seen them on the Dutch highlight show, but that doesn't do them justice, I'm sure It took me 2 seasons to discover that I was insane about Arsenal.

Why is Barca Ajax West or Brazil Europe? I love both their kits and crests. They both have rich football traditions. But why in SAM Hell did they let Figo and Ronaldo go??? They are INCREDIBLE.

Honestly, either you are Ajax or Feyenoord or support one of the many cool smaller clubs.

Heerenveen, Willem II, AZ, NAC all fine clubs - all cool.

Fc Utrecht..could be the coolest, but until last week they didn't have any pride, ambition or desire to be anything more than a filler in the league.

Ajax West - started with Cruyff's move to Barca years ago from Aajx, but before he moved to the US.

Also had van gaal and now Rijkaard managing Barca.

I just saw this thread, and I have to agree with BlueDaddy and Panic....

I think the question should really be:

Is ManU the Ajax of the Premiership? :D

    your analogy...

i am sorry to say that but it has absolutely have nothing to do with contemporary football in europe (or maybe just in english premiership) and its clubs: i.e.,

#1: manu being look down by the rest of england???...the majority of the citizen in manchester does NOT support manu, they support manchester city (you know...the one with anelka?)...its the rest of the world who support manu

#2: how many french plays for ajax?...can't be many?...beacuse they all played for arsenal

    Geez...

Ofcourse there are differences, else everything would be the same. I was just highlighting the similarities so as to make a comparison possible with the PL for Catfish.

    Plus;

PSV has domestically been more succesful than Ajax. And except for the '94-'96 period is generally regarded to have the strongest team in the Netherlands.

Liverpool is not that succesful these past couple of years, compared to the other two. Despite their grand history.

Northern England is looked down upon by southern England, especially by the people from London.

If you want to point out the misstakes in my comparisons at least do it right.

i don't wish to be rude... but do you have the remotest clue what you are talking about?

AJAX=28 titles, 15 dutch cups, 4 european cups
psv=17 titles, 7 dutch cups, 1 european cup

'generally regarded to have the stronges team in the netherlands'... by who? nimrods?

and what does the attitude of londoners have to do with the fact that liverpool manchester united have shamed their southern brothers?

    DOH! That one's gonna leave a mark...lol.
Captain, that's not logical! Well said bluedaddy19. PSV may have dominated the Eredivise the last 3 or 4 yrs, but not overall.

Look, I thought it would have been obvious to you as well that we were speaking about the past 20 years, especially since it had been explicitly stated and you yourself provided the info that PSV has won more titles than Ajax in that period.

Now, have you regained the clue?

Dutch football pundits have the opinion that PSV has the strongest team for the last couple of years now. Even many of the Dutch Ajax supporters share this opinion.

Like they also agree that PSV is unable to perform in Europe, unlike Ajax.

And since we were talking about comparisons it should have been obvious to you as well, that I was saying that the attitude of Londoners towards the people outside of London and especially the north is comparable to the attitude the Amsterdammers have towards the people outside of Amsterdam, especially towards people from the southern provinces.

And PSV have shamed Ajax for the past couple of years. Ajax unable to beat PSV and Ajax consistently getting beaten in their own home in the competition by PSV...
