Im sure there might have been a similar thread of this nature before, but as some of you know I dont get to see many Quakes games due to geographical circumstances.

If you guys could give a description of some of the best goals scored by San Jose Clash/Quakes, that would be cool.

I think the best one Ive seen was DeRo's at Dallas (2-1 defeat, 7/13....thanks again Kathy) but Im sure it can be beaten.

I kind of liked Landon's against DC 8/31, (can't remember if it was the first or second) The one where he broke through United's whole defensive line and scored. It was pretty cool.

The one I liked the best was Landon's goal in the playoff's last year where he spun the ball off the far post, from a tough angle, into the back of the net. That was so so sweet.

I've always think of Tayt Ianni's goal against L.A. in the first ever clash playoff game,I know it was probably not the prettiest but sure it was so sweet cause we won the game 1-0 and because it was against our hated rivals.

If you're talking about the one against the Crew where he received the ball in the left corner of the south end box with his back to the goal, turned his defender and ripped a spinning shot that curled around the goalie's outstretched arm, hit the far post and bounced in, yea that one ranks right up there. I happened to be sitting directly in line with that shot in Section 131. The curvature on the flight of that ball was a thing of beauty.

The two other really memorable ones to me are coincidentally, two more LD goals. One, an insurance goal against LA on the north end where Cerritos did this really awkward, but effective backward heal flick right onto the path of LD's horizontal run to the left along the 18yd box line. LD took one touch with his right foot and drove a bullet with his left to the left corner netting past Hartman, who could only do what the other 12,000 people in the stadium did, watch in amazement. At that point in the season he hadn't scored more than 1 or 2 goals and some were starting to question whether he was a forward. After seeing that from his off foot, I no longer had any doubt.

The other was the first goal of MLS Cup. Of course DeRo's goal has to be included on the list also. And Wynaldo's first ever MLS goal. Oh, and Dayak's Fusion killing header in sudden-death last year. And also Donovan's flick onto the head of Manny to beat TB just before the whistle last year.

I suppose there must of been some during the Krafted years, but I can't seem to conjure up any.

    Jezz...leave some goals to us!

My vote would have been Donovan's flick to Manny, with a close second to Cerritos flick to Donovan...

Didnt anyone score a good goal before Mr Donovan got there?

Surley Richard Gough knocked in one of his trademark 30-yard belters.........

Some of the old timers can tell you about the famous goal where the recent liver transplanted one takes a swig of beer from a fan, turns to the ball and puts it in on a corner kick.

Both Goose and Richard M have fired some long-distance lasers that are definitely worthy of note. I remember a beauty that Dario Brose roofed in 1999 off a free kick. That was against the Metros at the NJ stadium. The inimitable Ray Hudson was color man for that game.

Donovan's flick to Lagos was amazing!!!!!!!! My very close second is DeRo's game winner in MLS Cup 2001. Both of those goals were classy finishes to nail biter games.

Not to mention the one where he torched the entire Ft. Lauderdale Strikers team (including our buddy Huddo) on his way to burying one.

Ahhh...Besty...the original Yves of the Quakes...

For more recent goals, I really liked the one from last year where Landon made a perfect chip over the defense right onto the head of an onrushing Lagos for the goal! And DeRo's cup winner was nice, too, considering the amazing long ball that set it up as well as the payoff.

i think it's pretty cool that even though i get to see so few quakes games per year, you folks have nonetheless touched on most of my faves. waldo's winner in "game number 1" had significance beyond its technical merits, and dayak (after all he's been through) nodding the winner against miami was a gem. but those two are contextual "great goals." the situation was greater than the goal.
LD stopping and scooping a pass to manny's head v tampa bay last year was spectacular on many fronts. and if i may selfishly add to the list, from a game i was actually attending: graziani's impossibly-angled goal v dallas on 8/21/02. the guy was so close to the goal line he was practically drumming with the casbah by the time he actually shot!
...quakes win 4-3, and QPR wins 4-0. what an odd world.

    p.s. WRR: lay-off bestie's liver, eh? ;-)

The greatest ever Quakes goal (MLS division) is by definition DeRosario's Cup winner. That would be true if DeRo had pushed a two-footer into an empty goal.

O.K. , now we're into semantics , so we can chew through a lot of goals. We got " contextual" and pretty goals , and 4 eras : 1- Red Earthquakes ; 2- Clash ; 3 - Pre Yallop Quakes ; 2001 - on . So given that I've seen 1 era team only 3 times (but managed to get Bestie's auto in a tunnel before the game ) , " the Beer Goal " gets both nods ; era 2 - " contextual " - 1st Wynalda's goal , pretty - Wynalda ( am I the only one who thinks that he would look better on the Quakes bench as a supersub than a color commentator , after all he scored 10 goals last year) against Tampa Bay in 4-0 win , splitting 2 defenders at midfield , dribbling around 2 , and scoring , and I am sorry to say it Jorge Rodas free kick lazer against New England in 6-1 win . Era 3 - contextual , Brose in a 4-3 win against Colorado at home from Lazzizi's pass , coming back from 3-1 deficit , pretty Solis header tying the game at LA 1-1 , again on Lazzizi's assist. Era 4 - contextual - DeRo and Dayak - tie - as well as that insurance Donovan's goal , I actually thought it was his first , that goal signified to me that the " King is dead , long live the king " . Pretty- so many to choose from , but I would say aforementioned Donovan's in MLS Cup final , Ekelund's ( does Spejic still render him useless? ) after 3 passes in penalty area to beat Krapt's Army this year , Agoos's from 40 yards out against Colorado on the road last year , DeRo's first in our first win last year against LA on the road on a 40 yard breakout run .

    Couple of my faves:

Too many brain cells have died in the last year so someone correct me if the details are wrong:

Last year at home v. Metrostars, Lagos dribbles between the left corner flag and the goal holding off two, maybe three defenders, then dribbles back towards the 18 yard line, then back-passes the ball for Ian Russel who blasts it from the 18 past the helpless Tim Howard into the upper 90 on the far post.

Or the goal Lagos scored against the Mutiny in injury time after an incredible rainbow chip from Donovan.

Oh, and I agree about Ekelund's goal Saturday. It was unforgetable. But ask me if I remember it next year.

Ahhh Dont forget Troys header (first goal of the season and his MLS re-debut) in the opener against LA and the one that put us in the final, but there is no favoritism here. nuf said?

    Beat me to it.

Him flying in out of nowhere to smack it in and then stampeding over the sign boards and roaring at the the camera marked the turning point of the franchise.

Including Donovan's debut, that night signalled the dawn of a new era.
