    TONY SANNEH…

    SANNEH SEES HIMSELF AS WINNER

He is regular starter, he is a key player, he is national player. Anthony Sanneh plays an important role in the defence of head coach Klaus Augenthaler. But still some would be glad to have the US-American (contract until 2004) play somewhere else as Nürnberg is having debts of 5 to 6 M.

Champions League participant Arsenal, UEFA Cup starters Leeds United and West Ham United were asking for the WC participant Sanneh (WC average rating 3.4 in five games). “The negotiations were a good investment for the future”. Says Geenen. Means for the defender: transfer on request, secure career plans not possible.

And how do you feel as “play-ball” between the clubs, Mr Sanneh? “I can perfectly live with it. I know that Nürnberg is in big financial trouble”, says the 31 year old without any emotion. A “no-lose situation” as Americans are saying. “Either a better team and more money in England or a regular starter in Nürnberg”. Since the second game he’s finding himself on the position of the central defender, with success.

“I am living of my athletic skills”, says Sanneh, who prefers to play in a central position. “On the wings there is less action, it is much more difficult to concentrate permanently out there.” The head coach may not want to hear it, but one thing is clear: whether club or island – Sanneh sees himself as winner.

    CONOR CASEY…

…nothing really new on him in particular, but Hannover is expected to change the system (probably ordered by the GM) from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2. For Conor nothing changes – Fredi Bobic is the new number one up front, and the second forward will be Daniel Stendel.

    CORY GIBBS…

Will probably have a new coach tomorrow. Siegen’s Ingo Peter was invited to a conversation in St Pauli, but he couldn’t convince the officials. Neither did the second candidate, Lorenz-Günther Köstner (formerly Unterhaching, Cologne). The probable solution is that the assistant coach Joachim Philipkowski will move up to the head coach position. This seems a little odd as his coaching debut ended with a 0-6 disaster and his second game was won 2-1 against a team playing two divisions below, but reports say that he was talking to the players and motivated them anew. This impressed the officials and they made a contract offer.

    D3 WEEKEND PREVIEW:

JOE ENOCHS will play central mid again with Osnabrück in a road match in Paderborn, the duel of the 5th vs the 4th.
ADAM MAURER got the playing permit now but the coach trusts the team winning one point last weekend and so he’ll face bench time first. Verl as 15th has a road game in Essen – the big favourite of the league who finds himself on rank 10 after a weak start.
PHILIP SALYER is still waiting for his first playing time this season. Maybe he’ll gets it in the home game of Werder Ama (rank 11) against the reserves of Bayer Leverkusen (7).
JAMATH SHOFFNER will remain on the bench after the first victory of his team Borussia Neunkirchen which has an away game at Stuttgarter Kickers, duel of the 18th vs the 7th.
For Elversberg’s US trio the outlook is insecure: after dropping to the 19th and last rank the coach was fired and so nobody knows what the interim coach will do. RUSSELL PAYNE was on the bench last week, but as his replacement also got four goals against, he might find his way back between the pipes. TIM LAWSON had his first starting game last weekend, but was substituted after a week performance. It is insecure whether he gets the chance under a new coach – his plus is that he proved his abilities in the strong last season. MICHAEL MASON might still be injured, I have no current information about it. He’s a candidate for the starting 11 if he’s healthy. Elversberg is outsider in the home game vs RW Erfurt, with rank 2 on a promotion spot.
For Wehen’s US duo the same outlook as every week: PELLEGRINO MATARAZZO will play, DEREK PHILLIPS will face bench time in the away game in Regensburg. Wehen just moved out of the relegation zone (13) and hopes to not drop back after playing at the 9th ranked.
Siegen’s two US player, JOHN VAN BUSKIRK and ERIC LUKIN are again expected to start in Sunday’s home game vs Augsburg. Siegen is on a secure midfield spot (8) while 12th ranked Augsburg needs points to stay away from the relegation zone.
TOM DOOLEY’s 1.FC Saarbrücken has the weekend off – much needed to recover after disastrous two weeks with 0 points and 1-8 goals which made them drop from 1 to 4.

    Olafgb,

How is it that your English is so good?
Also, do you want to be a football agent after law school? It seems you are well prepared for the job.

The secret is that I'm using Babelfish ;) Thanks, but there's still enough room for improvement.

That's one of many possibilities, I'll wait and see how things develop. I specialised on collision of laws, which is a seldom law sector also with good future - I probably wouldn't say no if a big law firm comes and offers a job. I could also imagine to work in a big law firm in an English speaking country advising Germans or firms investing in Germany. Further options are embassy lawyer, business management, a soccer/hockey club/league/association or player agent. At the moment I just exclude the traditional law jobs as prosecutor, attorney or judge (though I don't exclude the latter possibility completely). As life is weird, it'll probably something entirely different ;)

I can pretty much guarantee he won't be the lawyer for Landon Donovan.

Who'd want to, I hear he gets real crabby and bloated about the same time every month...

Related question, surely Motzkin didn't do LD's contract in germany, did he? Who are the primary Euro agents searching through the US?

On Sanneh, looks like Nurem see's the fall as a shop window. If I'm reading this right (big if) the arse is still interested. Maybe as the injuries mount, the price goes up...

Dr Michael Becker is having lots of US players under contract in Germany (e.g. Hejduk, Cherundolo).

Boris is an agent himself, not just for soccer, but for all sports. Andrej Shevchenko is one of his clients.

The probability of a relation to Boris is quite small, just consider how many Baker's live in your country :)

Siegen's coach Ingo Peter signed a new two year contract. This means the end of the St Pauli story and also that van Buskirk and Lukin will keep their coach for a while.
