I mean, the last 2 PKs, they didn't shout "Penalty!" or anything, didn't even show a replay, just acted like it was no big deal, then the same thing on our end (EJ HOW DID YOU MISS THAT?). I mean it's bad enough we can't see the lines on the field but the play-by-play guys are on crack. Sorry, just thought I'd vent a bit.

On the 2nd Metro penalty, the MSG play-by-play guy missed it at first also (saw it on Shootout), the color guy said penalty immediately but wasn't sure.

The announcers are too busy babbling to pay attention to that game. Then again, their not at the game, but are watching it on tv, so they are easily distracted.

On the second penalty for the Metros, it sure looked like a hand ball on Dunseth when he hit the ball with his forearm. It was plain to see on the FSW replay, but the two nitwit announcers didn't see it.

I thought that was pretty strange too. The Revs broadcast was done much better by the broadcasters.

No doubt. It still pains me, though; seeing the head down when the ball is struck. Maybe PK's aren't worked on enough in practice (probably true for most teams).

I thought you were supposed to look at the ball when shooting.

Did anyone else notcie how many times the announcer got the names wrong? He called Ezra - Gbandi, Behnke was called Dunseth and Stone, Stone was called Deering, Urbas was called Duseth when he drew the penalty and on the other side Leitch was called Williams (ABMOD). No one looks like Abmod and no has Stones hair. They acted like this was the first time they had seen either team play.

Well metro fans also seem to disagree with the play calling.

I should have checked the shootout channels, the FSW anouncers were down right irritating.

    1. The constant chatter, shut up and let us watch the game.

    2. Field Turf in NJ is better than the surface at the Dragon; same stuff guys

3 & 4, miss IDing players, missing Dunseth on the 2nd PK.

    3 penalties

They can't see the lines any better than you or the players can.

I watched the MSG Network broadcast that was on the Shootout, mostly because the cold hand of experience has taught me that the MLS broadcasts on Fox Sports World usually suck, and because the MetroStars commentators on MSG Network are usually pretty high quality.

A tip: Whenever you have the choice of a FSW broadcast or the Shootout, go with the Shootout broadcast, because the FSW guys usually stink and are calling the game from a TV screen in the FSW studios. As bad as some of the local MLS crews are, at least they're at the stadium.

Anyway, Steve Cangelosi and Shep Messing did a good job calling the game. Cangelosi let the game speak for itself and Messing actually analyzed what was going on. In fairness to the FSW guys, Cangelosi and Messing didn't realize that the second and third penalties were actually penalties until the ref was pointing at the spot. On the second one, it's understandable because Dunseth's elbow wasn't too noticeable in the scrum. On the third, well, I guess that the yellow lines weren't all that apparent.

Incidentally, Messing thought that all three penalties were well-taken by Guevara, Mathis, and Johnson, but that all three were great saves by DJ and Jonny Walker, with Walker's save of Johnson's PK the best one. I would have to agree. EJ placed his shot well and put plenty of mustard on it, but Walker just came up with a great save to deflect it. So I'm not going to fault EJ for that.
