CyberRays at Blue Lions August 3

We are in the midst of a Saturday-Wed-Saturday-Wed-Sunday run. The last time our schedule was this grueling we did great. Our last three games are against San Jose, New York, and San Diego. The last two are away games.

Lets hope this Saturday is the beginning of another winning streak. The game is at 4 p.m. and the forecast is for 94 degrees and sunny, so it should be grueling. The game is nationally televised.

The good news for the Courage is that they are undefeated against San Jose, New York, and San Diego this season. The Power have no real home field advantage at Mitchel and I'll promise to do my best to make sure that just like I did for the first game of the season, Hege and Unni will get lots of support from the San Diego Norwegian Community.

    Heia Blå Løver!!!

How do you pronounce that? We could shout it at the last game.

You might want to just ask SDM* since I already taught him everything I know. ;) However, just in case he isn't available for private "norsk" lessons, I'll still give you a little help.

The Norwegian letter "ø" is a little tricky, but if you attempt to pronounce "Heia Blå Løver" something close to "Hi-ya Blow Luver," Hege and Unni will know what you are trying to say and will most definitely appreciate it.

If you want any ideas for a sign, I would go with something like "Ja, Vi elsker Hege og Unni!!" The Norwegian National Anthem is "Ja, Vi elsker," which means "Yes, We love" and "og" just means "and." I'll be watching PAX closely this Saturday to see if I can see any Norwegian flags or Hege and Unni signs at SAS Stadium. :)

there has definitely been a Norwegian flag at some of the games, in the stands behind one of the goals.

Thanks for the tips on pronunciation!! I think I have a vague idea of how to pronounce ø from our trip to Norway a few years ago.

    Norsk Flagg På SAS

Veldig kult!! (Very cool!!) We'll definitely have some nice Norwegian flags at Torero again for Hege and Unni.

Ikke noe å takk for!! (There's nothing to thank me for - one way that Norwegians say "you're welcome.") And yes, pronouncing "ø" is extremely important when you are in Norway since "øl" is the Norwegian word for beer. ;)

This thread probably isn't the best place to discuss your travels in Norway, but if you get a chance sometime, let me know where you have been in Norway.

    Heia Blå Løver!!!

Congratulations to the Blue Lions. I'm a Spirit fan, but it's great to see a team go from last to making the playoffs.

Awesome match! My neighbors probably wondered what I was screaming about. :D Second half was awesome.

PAX named Prinz WOTM. A good choice.

Crowd looked great on the tube and sounded good too. Keep up the good work, BA!

The Blue Army gets some help from a certain member of the game day stuff, but I can't remember her name. SHe is a mascot assistant, but oh well, I am sure someone will help me out with that.

Too many adult beverages at the post-game playoff celebration.

    The game

This game seemed like an inversion of the previous one. In the first half, the CyberRays seemed to dominate possession. Of course, part of that was during periods when they were passing it around among their defenders and we were not pressuring, but a lot of it was because we could not seem to hold onto the ball in the midfield. I'll have to watch the tape to try and see what made the difference in the second half.

It was a fun game to watch. On the side of the field where the team benches are, we were shaded from the sun so, unbelievably, it was not too hot.

Nel Fettig had a great game, as did many of the other players. It was nice to see Carla substituted in near the end of the game.

We watched the first half of the game on tape last night. The TV experience is so different from being there. You do not get a sense of the flow of play. They are always cutting away to a close up or something and then cutting back so you're like "oh they've got a corner kick -- I wonder what happened." So, from watching the first half tape I did not get the same sense of the CyberRays dominating possession. But there was a screen graphic of a statistic that reflected what I had perceived: most of the times the Courage took over possession was in their defensive third of the field and most of the time the CyberRays took over possession was in the middle third of the field.

Anyhow, it is nice to get the replays on TV. Not always totally nice, like the replay of Prinz pushing Thori Staples. But very nice to see our goal from several different angles.

Will report more after watching the second half...
