It's highly likely that wcgcapone, myself, and perhaps some others are headed to KC on the 14th. We'll likely crash in Lawrence that night, and I'm just throwing this out there to see if anyone has suggestions of where to hang out, you name it. Anything you can offer's appreciated.

Well that's a few weeks after school starts so everyone has had a chance to settle in and that's the best time of year for parties and bars. Feel like getting hammered and getting on some drunk college girls? If I'm around sometime that night I'm sure some of us (at least myself) could meet up at some bar and we can reminisce about the old days when Henderson had the 80's long hair haircut with both our teams.:D

Plenty of good times to be had in Lawrence...something can surely be worked out.

Sounds good to me, thanks for the early input.

Hotels, the like: we'd be looking into the cheapest possible, Motel 6 whatever. Is this something we'll need to reserve in advance, or just show up at 2 pm on Sat. and grab a room?

that might be parents weekend, or a football game (who knows?) so I'd make reservations. The Super 8 isn't too bad, i got a room there with two double beds for like $55. Divided by 4 that's not too bad.

Super 8 sounds good to me. There is a football game that weekend, but only vs. SW Mizzou State. I'll check the net for Super 8.

Oh, yeah! I had a great time for the season opener out there. What was that pub that you took Great Zar and I to? That place was no' too shabby.

Sure, pre-game you can watch KU football roll over like a Detroit whore. It must be embarassing to have K-St. beat your Hawk butt every year. Then there's ignoring a crap local band while hitting on a drunk flunkie future secretary in some smoke cloud after the game. At least the beer's usually cheap in a college town.

Wow, such dissent among fellow fans.

David, got a beef with KU much? Yeah they suck at football, but man, how many times they have to kick ass in basketball before others realize where the money and, most importantly, effort goes?

Please tell me you are a Mizzou fan, cause that would be perfect, having a Mizzou fan try to talk smack after we just swept their ass last year. Funny thing.... MU fans don't give a rats ass about basketball, yet they are decent. MU fans love football, yet they suck ass. Nice, guys. And K-state sucks just as bad in basketball as we do in football. That's gotta be demoralizing to never have beaten your in-state rival on your own court. And it's not like Bramledge just opened a few years ago, it's been what.... 10-15 or so years?

Derek, you haven't any idea of what you're talking about...I was born and raised in Columbia to two MU grads and even though I go to KU, I still root for MU. MU fans actually care pretty equally about both sports, and regularly fill the Hernes Center. There may be more of a tradition/routine of going to pointyball games, but don't try to tell methat "MU fans don't give a rats [sic] ass about basketball"

1.Fine, here it is. Yes, I've always detested KU. Not in the same way I hate Oklahoma because at least OU athletics deserve a level of respect. Yes, I went to Mizzou and even played a sport there. So I'm speaking from experience that MU fans do give considerably more than a rats ass about basketball. Some of my best memories at MU are games at Hearnes, including watching KU come to town #1 on three different occasions and leaving with an "L". But, my first loyalty will always be Nebraska and has been all my life. I wore red to NU games of all types in Columbia, and I still do.

2.KU fans can't possibly bring up the "you don't support your team unless they win" arguement. The ONLY event in KU's athletic department that doesn't have more visitors show up in Lawerence is basketball. At least when NU goes to Columbia there are more people wearing black than red.

3.Why is it that any jibe towards KU's sorry-ass athletic program automatically Pavlov's the "Yeah, but we're great in basketball" react? It's not unlike dc's, "Yeah, but we won 3 Cups." recording.

4.It's not basketball season, it's football season. When December rolls around then KU fans can squalk and wring hands over who will beat them in the tournament this year. Until then, it's football season. On that note I have to ask how many points KU will roll over for in this years MU game...40? 50? 60? ISU's fourth team drove the field on KU...ouch. I used to have a T-shirt that bore a similar resemblance to what will happen in this year's game. It's a grimacing Jayhawk bent over and being drilled by Truman the Tiger.

    2. I know we can't bring out the... "you don't support your team unless they win" argument, becuase as I said, Mizzou is the opposite, they don't support their winning basketball team as much as they should, and they support their crappy football team more than they should. And don't even say it's not crappy, you haven't beat 1 opponent in your two games, Illinois looked god awful against S-Miss and they're gonna get rolled so bad in Big Ten play.

    3. My first speech in the start of my Comms major career was how Bob Frederick has done nothing but destroy KU athletics and should be fired. So I'm fully aware what bad shape out athetlics program is in. Someone must have heard about that speech, because he resigned in the next few weeks. :D And the difference between KU fans and DC fans is that they are living in the past, KU fans are living in th present, we kicked ass last year, and we're gonna be even better next year.

    4. No, it's not football season, it's pre-basketball season. My best memory of KU football was kicking the crap out of Mizzou 24-0 my freshman year. That was a baaaad KU team, so what does that say about Mizzou? We also beat you the following year and I was hoping I could go for the sweep in my years here, but unfortunately we lost last year. We'll get rolled this year, but the only series that matters in the KU/MU rivalry is the basketball series.

Then you don't know much about MU fans. I am one, and I do care about basketball. Tiger hoops make the months between the end of Chiefs season and the start of Wizards season a joy instead of being long, cold months with nothing to follow. Derrick Chievous, Anthony Peeler, Doug Smith, etc. were the stars of the Tiger teams when I attended Mizzou. Even though the names have changed, my support of the black and gold has not. Sweeping the Big 8. Many conference titles. I love Mizzou hoops.

And as long as squakhawk U is the opponent, I'd root for Mizzou raquetball. :D

Speaking of Mizzou players, what's Albert "I'm good enough for the draft so I'm leaving" White doing now? How did he do that season in the NBA? I know what Gooden and Pierce are doing now.

    2. The only games not attended for hoops are the ones over Christmas because MU actually enrolls people from over :45 away. Also, the main reason MU rolled IU was the 6-7 fumbles caused by MU defenders. Most of them were of the "rip it out" variety. Good teams do this. Either way KU is on MU's schedule...

    3. "...and we're gonna be even better next year." Get a complete athletic program and then squalk. KU is only good in Men's basketball and eventually their inability to make money on anything else will drag BB down also. It's already killed the only other half-ass program at KU, swimming. Heck, the womens BB team went 0-14 in conference. 0-14.

    4. "...but the only series that matters in the KU/MU rivalry is the basketball series."
Spoken like someone who never actually played in the rivalry.

I was lucky enough to be part of volleyball teams that went 4-0 @KU against KU, 3-0 in Allen FH. I remember the raised intensity of the matches. I remember the drawn looks on the defeated KU guys' faces very well. I'm proud to remember it. It mattered. Don't think for a second it doesn't.

Lucid, don't feed their KU obsessions. The fact that wizardscharter would bring up KU sports without any provocation whatsoever shows that he's looking for a fight with KU fans. Just like the advertisements on the Simpsons, they go away if you just don't look.

I blame Bob Frederick for that. Luckily, he was forced out. Nice guy, but couldn't do his job. Sounds like another guy who is no longer involved in KU athletics.

Following that train of though, its amazing how KU and MU helped out each other's football programs. KU beating MU in Columbia in 2000 caused alot of MU people to say "Thank you for getting Larry Smith fired." The next year, MU beats KU in Lawrence, prompting KU people to say "Thanks for gettting Terry Allen fired."
