Colorado just became the 7th team in MLS history to have three double digit scorers in the same season with the goal by Chung this evening in their loss to NE. Congratulations to Chung. I have seen several Rapids games and watched last Saturdays Colorado vs. SJ game and Chung was Mr. Everywhere. For awhile I thought the camera-man had a Chung fetish or something. He was consistently around the play. Can anybody tell me why he is no longer a Metrostar? That would have solved some of our mid-field problems.
With the addition of Brad Davis, Chung became expendable. I saw the same game you're referring to and I agree that he played great. On the other hand, Chung didn't play anywhere near that level last season, such as he did in 2000 when he was one of the major reasons for the Metros turnaround. He's now on a team that plays a system that best suits his style. This isn't the only area this club has problems.
The reason Zambrano gave for the trade was that he knew that Chung would be retiring at the end of this season. Therefore, he had to trade him while he still had value. This smells like BS to me, but I suppose we'll see at the end of the season.
In the beginning of the season, the quotes from players and staff suggested that Chung was being a pain in the arse to deal with. I forgot what exactly was said, but if I find a quote, I'll post it. BTW, Ross Paulie and Balboa was part of the Chung trade. Serna wasn't with the Rapids
Re: Re: Chung NO. For the millionth time: Paule was traded for Shak and a #2 pick late last year. Balboa was traded for a #3 pick. Chung was traded with a #2 and a #3 pick for a #1 dispersal pick (Serna).
I believe the rumors of Chungy being a pain was just a smokescreen. And if he was a pain, it was because he was telling OZ to play him in a better position so he could score goals, and assist like crazy. OZ told him to flook off, so Chungy went to the Rapids where he RULES the left side of our country. Also, after the season he's had there's no way Chungy will retire. He's playing with a smile. Chung was a problem in the same way Villegas was a problem. They both hated playing on the wing because you have to bust your ass on both ends of the field. Villegas mouthed off in public after the season ended. Chung mouthed off in private. He was quoted a few weeks ago saying how he disliked playing the "idiot left" when he was the Metros.
