They're showing the Dewar Cup on the FSW halftime show right now. Damn, I have no idea how anyone could try to parade around the field with that monster.
What ever happend to all the soccer fans in NJ,I got to see the second half on TV and the place looked empty I wish they played the game in SF we could at least had 30.000 Fire fans at the game.
Actually, Michael K. - your signature says it all. I wish every single poster, actually every single supposed soccer fan in this country would read that! When all's said and done, it comes down to "is soccer a game that the USA public wants to see played professionally here and are people willing to support it by going out to buy tickets and attending games" ?! Stop all the crying about the MLS front office, your MLS team office, the USSF, the team GM, the coach, this player, that player.... The product will only improve if it is shown that people want to have it here - and if you are a soccer fan you should not need a personal invitation and escort to go to a game! Why should the USSF, MLS, or USL spend additional $$$ on marketing to the general public when the soccer community can't even go on-line to find out details for when & where a game is?! Another great one is "I'll go to a game when they do..." You have people willing to shell out hundreds of dollars for one international match but aren't willing to pay $100 (or less) for a SEASON ticket to their local or regional lower division team. Without that base support, the game will never grow here beyond what it is now. We will not see a higher level of play, greater media coverage, sponsorship growth, more soccer specific facilities, etc....unless people go support their area clubs at whatever level they may be! It is a BUSINESS, and like any other business, it will only grow & improve if there are signs that it is wanted and will be supported.

It isn't the diehards, such as members of the Metros-loving Empire Supporters Club, who have already begun campaigns to draw attention to the match. It's those fans that seem more interested in glamour games, but not matches that carry real importance. People are entitled to spend their money anyway they want, but anyone who can be part of large crowds to see foreign teams play exhibitions, but can't make it out to watch a true championship match, should ask themselves if they really are soccer fans. - Ives Galarcep That was really touching. But you know what! What kind of respect did your MetroScum organization give to the finals. The visual experiance reeked of crap. Never have I ever seen football lines for a game Final, even in MLS CUP 99' there was atleast a visual attempt to remove them. Those glamour games you mentioned. Name me one glamour game that was a visual disaster like last nights game. The game itself was thrilling, but I'm sorry, i cant get into games inwhich i am distracted by football hashmarks every freeking yard. In the end, USSF is to blame. They want respect for this Cup, then they should show some themselves. THE USSF SUCKs THE METROS SUCK THE YANKEES SUCK
Hey - at least the big NFL logo was removed from the center of the field. It was there when the Metros played Dallas on Saturday. Grasping at straws here. Why the USSF opted to pay a $ 100 grand and have the game played in Giants stadium on fake grasss with a small crowd when they could have tagged on to a big crowd and a field with natural grass - I don't know.
Sorry Jeff, 9 months before lifting the OC, Cobi and the boys lifted the Champions Cup. The OC in '01 was LA's first-ever domestic trophy.
~40,000 at the mex-uruguay game last night at soldier field... number would have been larger if the usoc had been there as well not to mention all the soccer fans that mls and us soccer could show their game to... but that might mean we try and make the final be known, and we can't do that
Wasn't the OC final supposed to be played at Rutgers initially, but there was a problem with rights to televise the game from that location? I don't think the previous Metro games were televised, so no problem...
Apparently the gifted people at US Soccer and some folks at the Metros thought it be better played in front of flies at Giants stadium, instead of having it as part of a double header with Mexico Uraguay at Soldier Field last Wednesday night. real bunch of genius folks up there. I think they all took the short bus to work the mornign they decided to do that!
You know what's sad? The fact that pretty much ANY friendly from teams outside the country draws nearly 10 times more interest then our domestic championship! Why should the game have to be "piggy-backed" on top of a freaking friendly in order to draw a crowd? I'm not slamming NY, because this would have happened in most markets in the MLS.
