Carve this in stone. He is playing under a very good coach--which would not be guaranteed in Europe.

Also, I blame the depressed Euro soccer player market. More than a few teams are hopelessly in debt and that has driven the price of players down.

    Is this good or bad?

This looks like good news for MLS and Chicago, but who knows what it means for the National team.

See, for a savvy agent this is the perfect time to market DMB. He could go to a first division team for (comparatively) peanuts and, assuming he's ready for first team football in Europe, would make fans delirious with joy at the bargain the've gotten.

Personally, I'm not sure he'll ever be suited for The Bigs. I just don't think he has the size. If you think he gets knocked around in MLS wait 'till you see him in say, the Premiership or the Bundesliga, where guys are substantially bigger.

But, I could easily be wrong. Time will tell. And I wish him nothing but the best and all the success he deserves, of course.

I wouldn't be surprised if Stretford arranged a loan deal to a big club this winter like he did for McBride last year. With WC qualifying pushed off until June, this would be the year to give it a shot without jeopardizing his spot with Bruce.

If he does well, someone buys his contract with an eye towards first team football. If he does ok, he comes back and plays through WC 06 in MLS. I think that would put him at 24 years old which would be a good time to make a big splash. For speedy wing players, I think 24-28 are their prime years.

I'm not surprised DaMarcus is staying now, and it's also great to find out in SA the league has options on Damani through 06. They'll both be around.

However, I am all kinds of positive Boca is as good as gone.

For an interesting discussion DMB's durability and other issues related to most intriguing young American star, check out "Damarcus Beasley's MLS Season in Statistical Pespective."

I don't think his size, or lack therof, is all that big a deal.

Meanwhile, DMB is playing it smart. He's still young. He needs to find the right situation, with the right coach, on a team that is BETTER for his development (and yes, there is still substantial upside for DMB) than the Fire right now.

    That's a tall order.

Why rush it? The Big Dollars are heading his way, a surely as Wes Hart will NEVER win a foot race against him.

My thoughts on the situation of the Double B Threat have been as follows for sometime: Beasley could use another year in MLS (and apparently he wouldn't mind staying longer), but Boca is gone in a year, if not this winter.

Great news to hear that DMB is looking to stay. He is under a great coach and has great team to work with, and should only get better with time. Besides, he is young, and does have plenty of time to move across the pond.
