At least according to Gazzetta dello Sport:

Before this season started I would have voted for Ronaldinho. But I think Sheva's form for both Milan and Ukraine justifies him receiving this award.

I think it's a toss up Ronaldinho and Shevchenko with both being worthy winners. Deco (whilst still a good player) doesn't belong in the same company as these two.

If it was voted for in the summer then Ronaldinho would have won in a landslide, and although Shevchenko's form of late has made it close I would still give it the Brazilian, just.

I'd have voted for Ronaldinho, but really it is hard to argue against Shevchenko. He's a player, and a worthy winner, if the report is correct.

Who else deserves consideration this year?

I could have seen both of them winning it. Sheva and Ronaldinho are both brilliant players. Still, I'm going to wait for the official announcement.

Even though he is a knob, you have to feel a bit sorry for Henry. Domestically he has been unbelievable in the last year.

Ronaldinho did not win anything last year. Barcelona was good in 2004, but was not great.

Shevchenko won his first Serie A title and AC Milan did cruise through Serie A. They did not have a perefct season liked Arsenal in England, but they did dominate their main rivals in big games. Being from Ukraine, you cannot blame him for missing Euro 2004.
