    AS reports: www.as.com/futbol
Steven Gerrard. Been born the 30 of May of 1980 in Whiston (England). 24 years. Captain of the Liverpool and unquestionable pillar of the selection of Sven Goran Eriksson. He is one of the great objectives that have marked the technical body of Real Madrid for the next season. According to he could know AS, per it of the equipment of Rafa BenÃ**tez has become object of high-priority desire to reinforce the todoterreno position of mediocentro, that at the moment only occupies Iván Helguera.

The white interest by Gerrard is not new. Del Bosque a pair of information elaborated already before leaving Madrid warning that this spiky and blond steering wheel had the ideal qualities for the center of the field. Their versatility, the power in their incorporations to the attack (it classified to the Liverpool for liguilla of the Champions when the marking both goals of his equipment in Genk) and their spread reunites the conditions dreamed by Camacho.

It can seem in a moment, but in Madrid they know that Gerrard will be more within a year one of the great pieces coveted by of Europe in view of which its projection does not have limit, guaranteed by its youth. In fact, Gerrard rejected two months ago ofertón of the Chelsea. Roman Abramovich got to put on the table of the Liverpool 45 million euros, which had turned it the most expensive draftee of the year. But Rafa BenÃ**tez convinced to the chaval and reds renewed to him until 2007.

In addition to the Chelsea, the Arsenal put its eyes in Gerrard when the march from Vieira to Madrid seemed inevitable. David Dein, its vice-president, communicated to the Liverpool that was arranged to pay more than 40 million euros. And in Madrid there is a phrase that already is respected as if it was a Maxima: Player to whom he puts the eye Wenger, player to whom is to file because he always guesses right.

Mascherano still is the December option
Madrid not to duer itself to me. Gerrard is the objective for the next summer but while that moment arrives, the club has more names in its agenda. If the things do not march well in the next weeks and makes lack reinforce medular, the first name that the technicians handle madridista is the one of Javier Mascherano, the young person mediocentro of River Plate who dazzled with their selection in the last Olympic Games of Athens, in that obtained the gold medal. The fundamental problem that it would imply his draftee (in case that Madrid wants to go to by him) is that Mascherano does not have the communitarian passport. The good news is that it would not take much in obtaining it, since it has Italian ancestry and it could obtain the double nationality in just a short time.

sorry the english is poor, it has been put through babelfish translation, but you can understand what it is trying to say!
about the eu thing at the end of the article, i believe carlos will receive his soon, so it shouldnt be a problem if mascherano was to sign!

Either of these two would be great.

Gerrard is a top player, still needs to learn how to play things simple and with patience at times but he's getting there. He's more attacking than defensive though and would cost a lot with the fight for his signature if he decided to leave Liverpool.

Mascherano is only 20, although he does look very assured already. He has a lot of talent and is comfortable playing as a defensive midfielder. Will be interesting to see how he does this year and with the full Argentina team.

I'm still very surprised no move was made for Xabi Alonso. 10 million is really not that much and this is his position.

If either Edu or Gilberto leave next summer, Mascherano is our first choice.
But I would do anything to get Stevie G, just imagine a Vieira-Gerrard partnership. That would be awesome, because their styles compliment each other well.

But I hope Madrid keep their eyes of Mascherano, because I honestly believe he'll be world class in a couple of years.

While these signings would obviously strengthen the side, it would mean that either Beckham or Helguera would have to sit (or Figo if we moved Beckham out to the right). I think that both of those players are world class as it is, and if we do well this season there's no real reason to get spend 20m+ on a CM that wouldn't start. Joaquin, a substitute CM, another marking back, and perhaps a replacement for Zidane would be more important.

Gerrard, Totti, Joaquin...should fill the rumours for now.

Masherano is probably a winter target. If R.Carlos get his EU passport in December like rumoured, I think Mascherano would be on his way then.

Masherano can also cover at right back...so this is a move for depth plus I think at the age of 20, he has a very bright future.

    Future Team Depth Analysis:

Perez will spend the money somewhere...and with 4 strikers, he can't be stupid enough to buy a fifth. Joaquin and Totti look interesting bc Real need guys to gradually take over from Zidane and Figo. As far as holding mids go...Gerrard would have to be the #1 target. If Mascherano comes it will be for depth and not necessarily cancel out a future move for Gerrard.

This would allow Helguera to rotate between defence and the midfield. Camacho won't have a situation like now where Bravo and Pavon are playing defence. Having already bought Samuel and Woodgate, and with Helguera being able also to go to the back, I doubt any more central defenders will be bought. Maybe another versatile defender that can play at right back. I wouldn't mind Zambrotta.....he can play both the left and right back or Bonera who can play central and right back.

Therefore...my own list of targets is:

Gerrard, Joaquin, Mascherano, Zambrotta(no rumour to support this..but its my dream), Totti, Bonera

    .............................Ronaldo
    ...........................(Morientes)

    Zidane......................Raul...................Figo
    (Solari)....................(Owen)...............(Joaquin)

    ................Gerrard.................Beckham
    ...............(Mascherano)..........(Guti)

    R.Carlos..........Samuel................Woodgate...........Salgado
    (Zambrotta).......(Helguera)............(Bonera)...........(Zambrotta)
    (Mejia)...................................................................(Mejia)

And u can put Totti wherever u want while Pavon and Bravo are the new cheerleaders...lol

Gerrard would be a quality addidition to the side without doubt. but as a holding player, i dunno. his best position is cm/am not dm. his true abilities are wasted in that position. i think we should concentrate on a player who will just sit and hld, and will not feel the urge to join the attack, leaving the defense open!

anyone who has seen Mascherano play during the Copa America and the Olympics should know that this kid has talent oozing out his ears. he would be a perfect fit at DM come December if Florentiono opens his eyes. he can be had now on the cheap, and i believe, will be a steal as i think he will eventually develop into one of the top DMs in the world. the only con i can think of is that he isnt that tall.
BUY NOW, before the rest of the world jumps on his bandwagon!!!!

    In a plane
Since Florentino has been in Madrid he has yet to buy anyone in December, it is hard to see than changing this year.

Madrid is most likely set for the entire year. Then again, AS rumours everyone to in the Madrid plans, so I am sure that next week, it will be someone else:rolleyes:

I was there, or there about......

Unfortunately i read that Zizou's wife was spanish and thus akin to the idea of moving back to her homeland. Zidane was also a Frenchie playing in Italy.
Gianluca Zambrotta is an Italian general who is legendary at JUVE in his homeland!!!
